Indian Ocean Surf season is showing its true colours now, even though the waves never really stop all year round.
Peak season surf signs are all there – in Bali and East Indo the humidity eased and the trade winds are blowing directly offshore along the west-facing breaks of the Bukit and Grajagan.
Up in Sumatra, the powerful southwest groundswells are lighting up all the premier breaks as the long-period swells feel the contours of the reefs.
The Southern Ocean storm track is sending lots of long-range energy from that ideal southwest direction reaching the entire Indonesian Archipelago.

Over in the Maldives, it’s a different combination of swell and wind directions that tell us the season is ON!
The famed east-facing breaks of the Male and Central Atolls show their true form when trade swells from the South-East start pushing up from the other side of the equator. At the same time, the monsoonal westerly winds settle into a steady offshore flow at Kandooma Right, grooming swells into reeling walls and funnels.

Over in the Maldives, the trend is from good to epic as the peak of the surf season is building through June and into July.
