Walt went all out to ensure we had the best waves possible and that everything was perfect. The food was next level! I really couldn’t recommend Villa Mentawai high enough and really… After checking some of the prices for the larger resorts the value was great – especially considering the personalised service. Spectacular place
The staff is wonderful, they treat us very well, they are always asking if we need anything or where we want to go to take us. Food is great, I recommend it and the price is super affordable. close to several surf spots.

Surfing Highlights
Telescopes
The most famous wave in the area, it’s hard to beat this break for its variations of sections. A long left with multiple deep barrel opportunities, it can hold real size. Made famous by the Young Guns 2 movie with Kelly Slater and Co having a load of fun with Indies Trader 4 and a helicopter!
Suicides
Aptly named, this high performance right off Awera Island is very shallow and can only be surfed on a mid to high tide due to the reef. However produces an amazing barrel and the locals love this break.
Iceland’s
The swell magnet for the area, Iceland’s is a left with many faces. An easy going west peak looks fun but the main part of the wave loves the south swell angle and produces a solid drop, barrel section and bowls at the end. Can be very heavy on its day.
Scarecrows
Breaks off of an island called Tugat Nusa just south of Telescopes. Great consistent left as exposed to South as well as SW swell. Best on a dropping high tide with the end section named the Curry bowl the pick of the wave for barrel riders.
Seven Palms
A great walling left with occasional hollow sections. Tucked in a small bay in the middle of Sipora, you have to know where it is to find it, but worth it when it’s on.
Ombak Tikus
Meaning ‘Mouse Wave’, this lesser known fun left is only just up the beach from Villa Mentawai. Ombak Tikus is a hidden gem and fun for most levels of surfer depending on the size. At 2-3 ft this is super fun and user friendly, however, over 4-5ft it takes on a different look and feel.

To get to Villa Mentawai you need to get a flight to Padang (PDG) in West Sumatra. You will need to travel through either Jakarta, Indonesia with Garuda Indonesia or Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with AirAsia.
In Padang you will take an early morning fast ferry over to the capital of the Mentawai, Tua Pajet. The trip will take approx. 3.5 hrs and is on a very comfortable and sturdy boat that the time will pass quickly.
From Tua Pajet you will be meet by your Villa Mentawai representative and host, Walt and taken the short 10-minute boat ride to your own private villa in Paradise.
The Villa
Villa Mentawai sits on 90m of private beachfront along the sheltered side of the beautiful tropical island, Simakakang, deep within the Central Mentawai region. The Villa boasts a spacious lower floor consisting of an open-plan lounge separating two huge bedrooms with multi-bed configurations of either one king and two singles or four singles, both with private ensuite’s.
A bar is built into the central lounge area, flowing onto a huge balcony boasting 180 degree ocean and tropical island views. Upstairs, another two bedrooms offer multi-bed configurations of either a king or two singles, sharing a bathroom and access to a separate Balinese style outdoor shower.
Ratu Ombak
Villa Mentawai’s modern speedboat “Ratu Ombak” (Wave Queen) is an extremely comfortable 7.5m aluminium half cabin design, fitted with a 250hp 4-stroke Suzuki outboard. Ratu Ombak is purpose-built to take guests surfing, fishing, snorkelling and island-hopping in a fast and safe manner. Ratu Ombak is fitted with the latest safety equipment including GPS, VHF Radio, Echosounder, EPIRB, and Satellite Phone.
Activities
A large range of water based activities abound at Villa Mentawai. For the anglers, there’s a great range of fishing, lures and trolling gear. Snorkelling is an absolute must with crystal clear waters and vibrant reefs surrounding many islands. Or, sit above the ocean and explore via SUP and kayaks by island-hopping and beach, combing the countless kilometres of pristine coastline.
