The Oasis was great choice
The staff were terrific and catered to all our needs.big shout out to the chef who consistently knocked up great tucker. Even managed a lamb roast. The serving sizes were more than enough to keep all the belly’s full.
On side note Having “proper” coffee machine aboard was a real treat.

The main cabin area had plenty of space for all surfers to watch highlights of the day surfing on the big screen tv. We even had a chance to catch some games of footy due to oasis offering starlink service(great internet connection for 90% off the trip)
The oasis was large and sturdy enough to make both the crossings and easy ride and steamed nicely between breaks during the nights

Large renovated boat, Excellent food, Great crew, sickest Ments boat trip!!
The boat was newly renovated, nice rooms with AC, plenty of areas to sit and relax and certainly never feel you are cramped on the boat. Indoor and outdoor areas with a a great upper deck to watch your mates get barreled or they watch you shredding. Plenty of room to chill and read a book but to be honest I didn’t sit still surfed my guts out all day, every day. The crew were amazing, Daniel the surf guide is such a nice guy and always put you in the spot and encouraged you to get the wave of your life. He never took a wave from you, if anything he hardly caught waves as he was busy looking out for us to catch waves. The crew were on to it picking you and dropping you off whenever you wanted to go. The food was exceptional, every meal was different and made each evening special talking about the day, crushing cold beers whilst enjoying a beautiful meal. Great boat, great staff, great waves!
We had a trip on The Oasis in the pre season. Our surf guide and crew were excellent with their knowledge of the Mentawais, putting us into great waves with no boats!
Food was outstanding and the boat amazing. Heaps of shade on the top deck to watch your mates get barrelled while you suck on a Bintang between sessions. You can do the same from inside in the air conditioned lounge area on those really hot days too.
Travel to and from was easy with the Perfect Wave Travel App, it even counted down the days/minutes to the trip!

Surfing Highlights
Hollow Trees
One of the world’s greatest right barrels, HT’s has been all over the surf mags and videos over the last decade. The main takeoff spot is up the point where most of the waves start barrelling and peel flawlessly down the reef. On larger swells it can be very shifty and hard to read. It can shift more to the end bowl where it can break, reform, then bowl again into the channel. The inside is very shallow and is often referred to as the “surgeon’s table” due to the many reef-cuts doled out to travelling surfers.
Lance’s Left
This left-hander is a consistent and frequently surfed crowd-pleaser. Lance’s Left has the ability to hold big swells and can offer up rippable walls and some little tube sections. It can also handle an onshore wind and still have fun waves. Facing Southwest makes this spot very consistent however its nature become more serious when there’s a large swell running.
Bintangs
A short and hollow right across the channel from Lance’s Left. As the wave approaches the reef, the bottom drops out before barreling towards the channel. When conditions are prime, Bintangs delivers amazing, round barrels and extremely fun, rippable walls. A major advantage of Bintangs is that on the days when the dreaded North wind blows out most spots in the Mentawais, Bintangs is offshore and pumping.
Cobras
A short distance up the reef from Lance’s Left, you will find this intense left-hander. It gets really shallow on the low tide and prefers a bit more water. Due to the shallowness it is normally relatively uncrowded. On a South swell and East wind it is a non-stop barrel from the takeoff all the way to the channel where the wave spits you out. Therefore appropriately named, The Cobra.
Macaronis
One of the most perfect waves in the world. A very hollow wave with many shallow spots. Lefts start from way up the point, then gradually slow down as it approaches the channel. The further up the point you paddle, the faster it barrels when you take off. After the initial barrel ride, this wave offers one of the most rippable walls for any maneuvers you can think of.
Greenbush
One of the most amazing waves to surf in the southern Mentawai region. Macas may be the most predictable and most fun wave to surf, while Greenbush has become known as one of the most mesmerizing and hair raising. The tube is very open and on the correct swell direction all three sections link up and it is very make-able.
Telescopes
It’s hard to beat this wave for its variations of sections. A long left with mutiple deep barrel opportunities, can hold real size. Made famous by the Young Guns 2 movie with Kelly Slater and Co having a load of fun with Indies Trader 4 and a helicopter!
Icelands
The swell magnet for the area, Icelands is a left with many faces. An easy going west peak look fun but the main part of the wave loves the south swell angle produces a solid drop, barrel section and bowls at the end. Can be very heavy on its day.
Scarecrows
Breaks off of an island called Tugat Nusa just south of Telescopes. Great consistent left as exposed to South as well as SW swell. Best on a dropping high tide with the end section named the Curry bowl the pick of the wave for barrel riders.

Extra Costs:
Every surfer visiting the Mentawai is required to pay the Mentawai Regional Government Surfer Tax for 15 days surfing in the region. This is normally paid on arrival in cash (Indonesian Rupiah) and collected by the local operator before departing Padang. You will be issued a wristband with dates. Please ensure you have this for your entire stay in the Mentawai.
The Oasis is now equipped with Starlink hi-speed internet. Starlink is is not included in 2025 charters and is charged IDR500,000 on boarding. Starlink is available to all surfers as an inclusion on 2026 charters.

Upon request, Oasis will supply a surf trip photographer. Cost of photographer service is $400 AUD prepaid per guest for rights to all images of themselves and a complete set of lifestyle photos from the trip.
The Oasis is now equipped with Starlink hi-speed internet. This is available to all surfers for AU$50 for the entire trip. It’s best to pre-pay, but can be paid locally prior to boarding Oasis in Padang. One unique login per surfer
Mobile Data – there is patchy 3G mobile in Playgrounds and Tuapejat regions, but little or no signal in most areas especially when down around South Pagai – Macaronis region. Do not rely on mobile connectivity, use Starlink instead.

The Boat
Oasis is a very good-value surf charter boat in Mentawais, able to serve up to 8 to 12 surfers. She is a 80-feet long traditional Indonesian boat and has a 17-foot speedboat with 85HP onboard to get you fast to the surf breaks.
Activities and Food
After a surf, go for a snorkel or pull out a rod to catch some fish. Lots of good meals are just waiting to be caught in the clean blue Indian Ocean that surround the Mentawai Islands. As you journey between waves, the boat will be trolling with lures out to catch fish. Often times you'll pull in Dorados, Onos, Mackerel, Grouper and the occasional Marlin or Sailfish.
Surfing
Best quality waves in the world. The Mentawai Islands and the wider regions expanding up to Nias and further south has one of the best wave fields in the world. Open to all the amazing long period swells generated from the south indian ocean’s roaring 40’s, yet nestled away on the equator with lighter winds and weather systems.
