Surfing Highlights
Macaronis
One of the most perfect waves in the world. A very hollow wave with many shallow spots. Lefts start from way up the point, then gradually slow down as it approaches the channel. The further up the point you paddle, the faster it barrels when you take off. After the initial barrel ride, this wave offers one of the most rippable walls for any maneuvers you can think of.
Roxies
a fun right-hander that works best in W – SW swells. It is fairly consistent and very fun wave to surf, and when it gets bigger it also becomes a hollow barrel. Roxies is only 45 minutes to the south of Macaronis Resort, and we frequent this spot on occasions for those chasing after a right-hander. Has been called ‘Macas in reverse’, due to the wave being a fun and perfectly peeling right.
Greenbush
One of the most amazing waves to surf in the southern Mentawai region. Macas may be the most predictable and most fun wave to surf, while Greenbush has become known as one of the most mesmerizing and hair raising. The tube is very open and on the correct swell direction all three sections link up and it is very make-able.
Rags Left
A great lefthander that can hold the biggest swells. It is very hollow and can often dish out some of the heaviest hold-downs in the island chain. Usually a bit more water moving around so a larger board can be useful.
Thunders
Another large left that picks up and can hold the biggest swells. It’s a top to bottom wave on the outside, that gets a bit mellower on the inside section. Another wave that usually has a lot of water moving, so a bigger board can come in handy.

Macaronis Resort
Macaronis Resort Mentawai is located right on Silabu lagoon, across the bay from the world famous left-hander, Macaronis, which is commonly known as one of the best and most consistent wave in the Mentawais. Boat charters frequent Macaronis break, but its consistency and perfection is worth a little bit of company and it’s certainly not the only wave in the area.
