Perched on the limestone cliffs of Ungasan at the southern tip of Bali, Umana Bali, LXR Hotels & Resorts (formerly Banyan Tree Ungasan) is an all-villa clifftop retreat made for couples, honeymooners and families. Its 72 one, two and three bedroom villas step down the cliffs like Bali’s rice terraces, and every villa has its own infinity pool, outdoor hot tub and ocean or garden views. Below the resort sits Melasti Beach, with direct access and the resort’s own Uma Beach House. From here the reef breaks of the Bukit Peninsula are close at hand.

The Resort
Umana Bali sits at Bali's southernmost edge in Ungasan, where 72 private villas unfold across a terraced landscape inspired by rice paddies and the Subak water system. The name comes from uma, the Balinese word for rice paddy fields. Design by WATG and Wimberly Interiors draws on the Balinese Tri Hita Karana philosophy of nature, people and spirituality, with work by local artisans throughout. Facilities include The Lohma Spa, a fitness centre, a kids' club, a clifftop wedding chapel and event spaces. It is the first LXR Hotels & Resorts property in South East Asia and part of Hilton Honors.
The Villas
Every villa at Umana Bali opens to a private infinity pool and outdoor hot tub, with natural materials, sculptural Balinese details and a living frangipani tree. Choose from one and two bedroom villas with ocean or garden views, or the three-bedroom Uma Ocean Estate. Villa amenities include a Sonos wireless sound system, espresso machine, bespoke minibar, deep soaking tub, wine chiller, gazebo and indoor and outdoor rain showers.
Dining
Umana Bali has five restaurants and bars. Oliverra serves Mediterranean flavours with clifftop views over the Indian Ocean. Commune offers all-day South East Asian and international dining. Pad Pool Bar pours drinks and light bites by the pool, Mer Lounge serves coffee, cakes and wine from a curated cellar, and Uma Beach House on Melasti Beach serves Japanese-Peruvian cuisine and signature cocktails. In-villa barbecues and floating breakfasts can be arranged in your villa.
Surfing
The words ‘Bali’ and ‘surfing’ have gone hand in hand for over 40 years. A favourite amongst Australians due to its close proximity, Bali is also world renowned for its consistency, variety and number of awesome breaks. Bali gets surf most of the year, during the dry season of April to October, the trade winds favour the west coast. During the wet season of November to March, the tides and winds favour the east coast, mainly around Nusa Dua and Sanur. The most popular area of Bali for surf is around Uluwatu.
Wellness and Culture
At The Lohma Spa, holistic Balinese healing traditions meet contemporary therapies, from the signature Lohma Spa massage to sound healing, breathwork and cold water immersion. Yoga and meditation run daily. Beyond the spa, curated experiences include Balinese cooking classes, stargazing with a resident astronomer, kite making, and helicopter flights over Mount Batur. The resort sources more than 80% of its produce from local farms and its own hydroponic garden.
