June Was Pumping – Kandooma & Maverick Swell Recap

The last week of June went out with a bang. We scored pumping waves and a solid southeast swell, matched with light offshore winds. Most days had WSW winds, lighting up all the rights across the eastern side of the atolls. The standout sessions were at our resident rights — Kandooma and Mavericks. Kandooma was double to triple overhead when the swell peaked. A few guests reckoned they’d never been barrelled so much in a single week in their life…

How’s this view at Kandooma — solid 6ft+ rights, breaking right on your doorstep. You wake up, look out the window, and there they are… perfect lines reeling just metres away. The view from the rooms is next level.

The waves break so close you can feel the rumble through your feet anywhere on the island. Here’s a little sneak peek at the action.

From long, rippable walls at Kandooma Right to fun little peaks nearby, guests have been scoring wave after wave in paradise. Add in glassy sunrises, smooth boat transfers, and our on-island surf guides dialling in the sessions — and it’s easy to see why this has been one of the best season starts we’ve had in years.

Down in Laamu, Sarongs was absolutely firing — clean, playful walls with a super hollow end section, dishing up wave after wave. Just our guests out there, trading turns in an empty lineup.

This is the kind of setup you dream about. Crystal-clear water, reef breaks just minutes away, and zero stress getting to the surf. Whether you’re chasing barrels or cruisy shoulders, the waves around Maverick Surf Boutique Retreat have something for everyone.

If scoring uncrowded waves in a postcard setting is your thing — this one’s well worth a look.
