Every year, Perfect Wave Travel participates in the SurfAid Cup, a fundraising event to give supporters the chance to contribute to the important work. You can see how last year we were part of a combined effort to raise $182,000 that goes to community support in our favourite island regions.

The SurfAid Story

SurfAid’s work is made possible with the support of people like you. For over 20 years, the core mission has been to save the lives of women and children in remote areas that are connected to us
through surfing.

SurfAid work in Indonesia’s surfing heartlands – the Mentawai, Nias, Sumba and Sumbawa and last year, SurfAid launched two new programs in Solomon Islands and Baja, Mexico.

Community empowerment is at the heart of what we do at SurfAid—creating positive change for generations to come.

Working with communities on long-term behaviour change through their “hand up, not a hand out” approach. SurfAid’s local staff provide advice, training and expertise, but it is up to the community to implement the initiatives and embrace positive change.

We have all seen that many remote island communities lack access to basic healthcare, clean water and nutrition.

As a result a mother dies in childbirth every three hours and 20 babies die every hour in Indonesia. Half of these babies are less than one month old. In remote areas, these figures are worse. It does not have to be like this! Simple, affordable and effective programs address the underlying causes, resulting in significant improvements in mother and baby health and survival rates and ultimately thriving communities!

SurfAid’s mission is to work in in remote areas connected to us through surfing – and improve the lives of women and children. Together, we can give families the best chance of getting ahead by providing access to healthcare, clean water and sanitation and improved nutrition.

The SurfAid Cup

SurfAid rally the community of surfers to raise funds through the annual charity surfing event, The SurfAid Cup. Team Perfect Wave have committed to the Manly event and 2020 will be our 5th year of support. With legend surfers like Tom Carroll and Matt Wilkinson participating, the competitive spirit is strong both in and out of the water.

Team Perfect Wave are more focussed on the fundraising side of things, but we are always stoked to place well in a few heats, making the semi finals each year we have entered a team. Perhaps 2020 is the year we can go one further and make the final!! A good fundraising total is important as it provides a priority pick of the pro surfer to add to the team. It was incredible to see Damien Hardman paddle out in the 2019 event and score two 9’s in 10 minutes when everyone else struggled to score a 5.

Please consider donating today.
