Nicargaua has some of the best points, reef breaks and sandbars in Central America
Ideally located near several fun waves and beautiful beaches
Over a mile long, Playa Hermosa offers several peaks, long walls and the occasional barrel. The waves here are of a higher quality than most in the vicinity, but does require a bit more of a powerful swell to work. Mid to high tide break. Note you will need to pay a small fee to use the road that leads down to the beach but it’s well worth it!
Sits just a little north of the wind corridor flowing from the east and therefore is best at dawn before the winds pick up. This beach break offers consistency that is hard to find. You can grab the occasional barrel but for the most part it’s just a really fun wave to play on without crowds.
The name gives it away, it’s a blast! Breaking left and right with the left going a little longer. At chest height, this wave will bring you hours of joy. Also a great wave for the less confident surfer to get out there without the threat of a solid working, but do be wary of the rocks.

This property is located near Punta Miramar, a beautiful left hander breaking over a rocky reef bottom. The wave can be heavy with some nice barrel sections that flow into a softer section before it hits the inside and throws again. Also known as "La Jamaicana" or "Miramar". Holds any size swell. Also nearby is Pipes, an A-Frame beach break with a flat reef to the left. Pipes has long lefts and rights and will barrel on most swells and works well on all tides.
The Telíca Volcano is an active volcano about 30 kilometers from León. The last eruption was in 1948, but the volcano still smokes and grumbles. The volcano is 1,061 meters high and has a huge crater. The actual climb is not that hard, you'll be at the crater in less than two hours. Eco-kayaking is popular, Miramar Surf Camp experienced guides travel between the trees and lead participants to unique areas of the estuary including tranquil river environments to the open ocean. Laguna Del Tigre is a fresh water lagoon situed in the bottom of the volcano Momotombo. It's a 20 minutes hike through intense, remote jungle, but the iddylic lagoon is more than worth it.
