Two coasts and a vast surfing heritage make the USA one of surfing’s greatest road trips and pilgrimages. In California Santa Cruz  is an epicentre with waves like Pleasure Point and Capitola Beach suitable for big wave surfers and beginners alike. Further south Huntington Beach is, rightly, named Surf City  USA, while the iconic performance wave of  Trestles is an hour’s drive further down the coast. In the far south San Diego offers 100 clicks of open ocean coastline and a relaxed city culture based around surfing. Switching from the Pacific to the Atlantic, the East Coast’s Route 80 covers 1500 kilometres starting with the warm waters and white beaches of Florida and Carolina and finish with the frigid, barrels near New York.
