The week here at Kandooma Resort started just where it left off last week in South Male’. Two days of W/NW winds had guests salivating for more of arguably the best left-hander that the whole Maldives has to offer, Tucky Joe’s.

As busy season has just left us, the wave was only open to a handful of guests. All took it on with much anticipation after last weeks swell and we were not let down in the slightest. 3-5 ft light offshore conditions had surfers and bodyboarders sharing perfection in harmony.

Tucky Joe's

The wind suddenly swung west mid week, so our dhoni’s changed direction and traveled to Riptides and Quarters, much to the delight of our regular-footed guests, while those who remained on the island were treated to pristine 3-4 ft glassy Kandooma Right. This wave has been more playful than a 6-month year old puppy for the last 3 weeks and we have had surfers, bodyboarders, longboarders and SUPs all enjoying one of the most fun rights in the Maldives chain. This place is perfect for all types of ability levels.

Guests enjoyed Quarters Friday morning with both the outside and the inside section working, allowing everyone to spread out. The outside section has an easy take off, allowing a few cruisy turns before rifling off onto the inside where the wave becomes shallower and faster offering more bowl-like sections with the opportunity of tubes.

Saturday and Sunday delivered strong winds, allowing lay-days for some surfed-out guests, while others who have never surfed before enjoyed lessons at our wind-protected “kiddies corner”. Our windsurfing instructors enjoyed the conditions and frolicked through the gusty conditions making the most of it. It is definitely not all but “just surfing” on Kandooma.

The forecast shows a dropping swell early in the week before a bumper south swell arrives, hitting the eastern seaboard. Lets hope there is enough angle in the swell to hit South Male’!!

More from Kandooma next week.
