Great trip!
Just wanted to say my wife and I have had a great trip to Kandooma. The surf turned on in the last 4 days and has been super fun waves!! As I type Kandooma Right is pumping so hard to say goodbye. We ended up having 22 dives between us in great conditions, what a great place to dive. Thank you Moose, Andrea and Eddie from the professional dive team. All staff in the resort have been amazing and ultra helpful and have made this trip a cracker. A special call out to the Perfect Wave staff who made the Kandooma surf experience a fun one. Special call out to Minoo who guided me in the line up and put me onto more than a few great waves… and managed to take photos as well. The experience has been drama free and so easy. Will recommend Kandooma and Perfect Wave to all who want to listen.

Super easy and perfectly organised
Lachy made everything super easy for us, everything was perfectly organised for us in terms of getting from home to the island and back again and we were never short of things to do when we there with fun waves right out the front, boat trips to nearby reefs and scuba diving everyday. He was always quick in replying and offered great advice to the few questions I had.

Absolute delight
Kandooma was an absolute delight! The island is beautifully kept and the people, especially the locals, are amazing. We loved our stay in the Overwater Villa, the food was great and the service excellent. We enjoyed the excellent massage at the Spa, and the gym is well appointed for what you would need. We enjoyed small but clean waves at Kandooma Right, and the trips to Tucky Joes and Quarters were quick and lots of fun. We will certainly be back and look forward to see what all the renovations will produce.

Very relaxing island great food, accommodation and surf transfers. I found that perfect wave seemed to attract people that shared common values, which made for really friendly encouraging line up in the surf each day.
Fantastic and happy to book again
I made some very broad general enquiries regarding a surfing trip to Kandooma for myself and two mates and I corresponded through Billy Randell. He got back to me very quickly with very comprehensive answers to my questions which I really appreciated. From my perspective it turned out to be a cost issue which is why I didn’t proceed. Having said this, I found Billy to be fantastic and I would be more than happy to book (more suitable to our budget) surf travel through him again. He knew his stuff and was very easy to talk to.

How far is Kandooma Resort Maldives from Male Airport?
Kandooma Resort sits in the South Malé Atoll, roughly a 40–45 minute speedboat ride from Velana International Airport (MLE) in Malé. Despite the short transfer, the island feels remote and secluded, making it one of the most accessible surf resorts in the Maldives for travellers who don’t want to lose a day to transfers.
How to get to Kandooma Resort Maldives?
Fly into Velana International Airport (MLE) in Malé, which connects directly to major hubs including London, Dubai, Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Frankfurt. On arrival, a Perfect Wave representative meets you and transfers you by speedboat directly to Kandooma Resort, so there’s no need to book separate domestic flights or ferries.
Do you need a visa for Maldives?
No. The Maldives issues a free tourist visa on arrival to all nationalities, so no pre-approval is required before you travel. What is the surfer cap at Kandooma Resort?
Perfect Wave Travel limits Kandooma’s surf program to 45 surfers at any one time. Booking your surf package exclusively through Perfect Wave (the resort’s worldwide exclusive surf operator since 2007) is what keeps Kandooma Right uncrowded for every guest.
Which area is best to stay in Maldives?
It depends on when you’re travelling. The North/South Malé Atolls, the Central Atolls (Laamu and Dhaalu), and the Southern Atolls (Gaafu Dhaalu) all offer strong surf conditions at different times of year. Kandooma, in South Malé Atoll, is one of the most convenient options thanks to its short transfer time from Malé. Speak to a Perfect Wave consultant about which atoll suits your travel dates and skill level.
Do you need cash in Maldives?
Resorts like Kandooma accept credit cards for most spending, but it’s worth carrying some newer-series USD notes for tips, incidentals, and small costs at the airport.
What is the best currency to take to Maldives?
The official currency is the Maldivian Rufiyaa, but USD is the preferred currency for visitors and is accepted almost everywhere, including on resort and surf-transfer boats. Local ATMs dispense Rufiyaa only, so they’re not useful for topping up USD, and you can’t exchange other foreign currency for USD once you’re in the country. It’s best to bring the USD cash you’ll need before you arrive.
