What you love
Just another thank you for a great trip.
It was so good for me to see that boat, Marty, the area and the waves…..
What a great trip.
Your team has provided me (and the other 9 surfers on the boat) with an excellent experience. We surfed at least once every day. We also visited islands, caught fish, snorkelled, drank, played cards and generally had fun.
Thank you Jamie for giving me the opportunity to have the experience. A quick roll call
Gina Lowe: my main email contact. She kept me updated throughout covid, booked flights and responded to my emails quickly. She was a great help.
Chris Buykx: A clear indication that all would be good after covid stopped the original trip in 2020
Ayya?: The meet and greet rep at Male airport, calm and efficient.
Bob: The best. His ability as a surf guide is hard to measure. Always positive, provided clear information and genuinely shared in the excitement of the trip. An amazing asset.
Boat Crew: Great food, easy to get along with, efficient. A small boat but it seemed to work. Other surfers were amazed that we could all fit on the boat.
Many of my surfing friends and contacts here at home are keen for information about my trip. Many of them have yet to have the Maldives experience, I almost brag about being away and what a great trip it was. Of course I give TPW a plug.
I had massively high expectations for this trip as the Maldives were the top of my bucket list, it delivered and then some.
As far as feedback, Bob our guide was excellent; being a classic Aussie ripper, he knew exactly where to go for the best conditions, the crew also bent over backwards for the same goal. The food was, again, excellent and unbelievably varied considering we were out to sea all the time. It took me nearly all holiday to get used to being waited on hand and foot (surf pick ups, table service etc.). I know it’s just there and not part of your package but the wildlife blew me way, just when you think you’ve seen it all, Neptune sends another surprise to the point that nothing surprises you!
Thanks for all of your help organising the trip.
Everything went smoothly and it we all had an incredible time. The boat crew and perfect wave team were amazing, and made our whole experience from the moment we arrived stress free. Huge thank you from us all and looking forward to organising the next adventure with you soon!
Surfing Maldives
Although Surf Sojourn is a smaller boat, internally it cruises much faster, it’s noticeable when moving around the Atoll. Definitely a positive, air con in each cabin @ 24 hrs is excellent. Sri Lankan Chef on Surf Sojourn is able to vary meals, far more so than other charters I have been on.
Great surf daily and excellent service/food from the boat crew.
The boat manager Gobi was awesome and always accommodating. Glen, our Perfect Wave consultant was always quick to respond to any queries we had. And our surf guide Nathu was able to score us fun waves every day. Can’t wait for our next trip back.
Surf Sojourn
Maldives, great experience, no hassles or dramas from booking to pick up & drop off with quality waves on offer & the experienced crew at the perfect wave in & out of the water – made for an excellent holiday!!
The Surf Sojourn is a great boat to explore the Southern Atolls.
The crew know their work and keep the service up to a high standard. We were lucky to have a cabin each with ensuite, however, the cabins are small and it would be a tight squeeze if you had to share. Food was good with plenty of rice and fish, and some amazing Sri Lankan curries. There was plenty of swell down south and at Laamu Atoll, and I think that Laamu has the best barrels in the Maldives.
Everything went perfectly.
I wanted to thank you for the organization of the trip. We had great waves, great food and unforgettable moments!
Surfing Highlights
Cokes
Dhravandhoo Right
Baa
About 3 kilometres to the south of Dharavandhoo, it is the closest wave to the airport. As the name implies it is a right-hander that works best on a SSE swell with W to NE or light variable winds. Probably the heaviest of the few regularly surfed waves in the atoll, it is for intermediate to advanced surfers only.
Quarters
Five Islands
Five Islands is another righthander that breaks hard and hollow on the shallow reef inside. The outside section encourages deep takeoffs into racy walls and handles the biggest swells at all tides.
Kudadhdhoo
Baa
This left is the standout wave in the region, and is considered world class. It is best on a SSE to SE swell and N to NNE wind.
Honkeys
North Male
One of the most consistent waves of North Male Atoll off the island of Thanburudhoo which is uninhabited. This is an excellent, long, world-class left-hander. Its mirror, Sultans, breaks on the other side of the island.

The Charter
Surf Sojourn is one of the most experienced surf safari boats working the Maldives island chain. With its captain Hussain, who has been onboard since its launch date, this safari has seen all there is to be seen in the Maldives, most importantly, every Maldives surf point has been explored by this safari. This surf charter takes individual or exclusive bookings, and you can have this boat exclusively with a group of your surfing mates with a group as little as 4 surfers. The 5 twin cabins with en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning, new bed linen, and towels also a shaded bimimi sundeck offer you comfortable and unique experience!
Meals
Meals on the boats are all-you-can-eat and are a mixture of Maldivian, Sri Lankan and western dishes. Fresh fish dinners are the favorite menu, the experienced chef is specialized in Sushi and Sashimi and the whole crew love to fish, the best combination of unforgettable meals. The chefs are also willing to adjust the menu to suit individual needs if required. You can advise us after you book if you have any allergies and we can advise the chef before your trip. For Breakfast, tea, coffee, fruit, juice, toast, cereals and eggs and/or pancakes are provided. Lunch & dinner is a banquet of five different dishes with daily variations including fresh fish & tuna dishes, curries, rice and pasta dishes, vegetables and salads. Meat dishes are provided but usually we try to provide fresh food from the local environment. Evening meals are followed by dessert and lunch is followed by a fruit dish. Tea and coffee is served after all meals. A bunch of bananas ripen on deck and you can eat these as you wish.
Surfing
The Maldives is a perfect destination for a surf adventure. Experienced surfers love to come here to score quality waves in the peak season, while intermediate short board and long board surfers will find long, fun, peeling rights and lefts. From the popular breaks in the Male Atolls, to the lesser known, but just as good breaks of the Southern Atolls, there's a wave for everyone. Perfect Wave operate all our surf charters in the Maldives, so you plan the trip with our staff, you're met by our staff at the airport, and our surf guides will get you onto your perfect wave. Guaranteed.
Surf Guide
One of the most important parts of any surf charter is your surf guide. Your surf guide on the Surf Sojourn is employed full-time by TPW Maldives and trained by ISA (International Surf Association) as a Surf instructor and SGA (Surf Guide Association) in safety, rescue, first aid and hospitality. All our hand-selected, well-trained guides have been running surf charters for many years, and are the best and most experienced in the Maldives. With the largest network of surf operations in the Maldives, they know where and when it is good and will put you in the spot. They will also be in daily contact with TPW Regional Operations Manager to ensure you have everything covered for an amazing Maldivian surf experience.
Northern Atolls
The main area the Sojourn will cover is the Male and Northern Atolls, of Baa, Raa and Lhaviyani. The area is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, which consists of three separate atolls. The most consistent breaks are found in the waters off of South Maalhosmadula Atoll. The airport on Dharavandhoo Island which services the area is 115 kilometres to the north of Male. The region is largely unexplored. There are currently 13 named breaks on Baa Atoll, but only 4 are surfed on a regular basis. There are 3 other atolls that can be reach within a day by boat from Baa Atoll: Lhaviyani to the west, Noonu to the northwest, and Raa to the north. Our boat captain is a Maldives veteran, and he’ll make sure you’re always at the right place, at the right time. This is a fantastic area for surfers who want to surf newly discovered or completely uncharted surf spots.
Southern Atolls
Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll - It is said that the Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll (also named Huvadhoo Atoll) offers the best conditions for surfing inthe Maldives. It works best in February to April and September to November. It picks up more swell than any other Atoll in the Maldives and from every direction. The Gaafu Dhaalu offers the greatest quantity and variety of spots. To almost every island on the outside of the atoll you will find one or two breaks. There is everything from barreling and hollow walls to soft and never ending playful waves.
