Bathed in warm Indian Ocean current, and with nearly 1600 kilometres of palm-fringed coastline, Sri Lanka is an incredible surf destination. The East Coast’s surf hub is centred around the legendary point break of Arugam Bay, which is best in the Southern Hemisphere winter. The opposite coast, and its best waves near the town of Hikkaduwa, light up in summer. The great surf is accessorised by fertile wetlands, mysterious forests, mountains, rivers, wildlife and cascading waterfalls. Add the inspiring food, historical and religious sites and a culture rich in tradition and Sri Lanka becomes less of a surf trip and more of an awakening.
