Located in Tarimbang this is probably Sumba’s most ridden wave. The fast, hollow sections on the long righthander split the crowd and there are also softer shoulder sections for surfers of all abilities riding all crafts.
Highly consistent, this wave holds as big as it gets. Pero Lefts can be excellent as swell is refracted heavily into big bowl sections with ample tube-time.
The surf in West Papua has lots of good quality and potential, although it isn’t on the same level as the Mentawai Islands and rarely receives a big swell. Instead, you will find yourself discovering new waves and surfing rarely visited left and righthand reef setups. The breaks are uncrowded, the water warm and the stoke incredible. Trips to West Papua aren’t so much about surfing existing waves, but finding new ones. With the Raja Ampat archipelago an endless maze of nearly 1,500 islands, it remains one of the last surfing destinations where this isn’t just a possibility, but a probability
Aptly named, this high performance right off Awera island is very shallow and can only be surfed on a mid to high tide due to the reef. However produces an amazing barrel and the locals love this break.
Breaks off of an island called Tugat Nusa just south of Telescopes. Great consistent left as exposed to South as well as SW swell. Best on a dropping high tide with the end section named the Curry bowl the pick of the wave for barrel riders.
