The staff, the resort and the activities were great. We had great conditions for surfing. The travel arrangements worked very well. Great surf
The Aloita surf camp give us a very good surf spots for surf, and good surf guides that recommend the best places for surf with the swells and wind conditions, all the spots are very close to the surf camp.

Everything went smooth as with the arrangements made from TPW – thank you very much for the effort on your end. Aloita was an awesome location to stay. We were chatting about where else we would stay if we were to go again, because we all think Aloita is top notch and is too good not to go back to. The staff there are amazing, accom is great, and the food is all time! The waves were exactly what were chasing, we had it at about 4-5ft most days, with one or two 6-8ft days in there to test the confidence.
Sensational time at Aloita.
A journey to get there, but the waves were fantastic. Two experienced surf guides ensured that we surfed the right spots at the right time.
Excellent resort
The food was fantastic, the staff a delight to deal with and the accommodation spacious, comfortable and cleaned every day. The boat which took us out to the breaks was in great condition and with enough space to handle up to 12 surfers if need be. We surfed 6 different surf breaks over the 7 days all within 15 minutes ride and more often than not we had the breaks to ourselves. We had plenty of swell which helped spread the crowds in the area out. The new surf guide Darren arrived whist we were there. Really good guy. He has been running charter boats around Indo for 20 years, is really knowledgeable, attentive and will be dialed into the local surf options in no time.
There were couples, singles and small groups at Aloita during our stay and all integrated really well. I think in large part due to the inclusive nature that Fabrizio exudes. He has created a really cool culture around the place which adds to the experience.

We just spent 12 days at the beautiful Aloita Resort in the Metawais.
The place is set on a breathtaking and peaceful tropical island paradise – jungle forrest meets uninhabited beach meets crystal clear underwater paradise. For natural beauty it easily rivals anything in Indo or even the Maldives or Fiji.
Surfing Highlights
Icelands
The swell magnet for the area, Icelands is a left with many faces. An easy going west peak look fun but the main part of the wave loves the south swell angle produces a solid drop, barrel section and bowls at the end. Can be very heavy on its day.
Suicides
Aptly named, this high performance right off Awera Island is very shallow and can only be surfed on a mid to high tide due to the reef. However produces an amazing barrel and the locals love this break.
Telescopes
The most famous wave in the area its hard to beat this wave for its variations of sections. A long left with mutiple deep barrel opportunities, can hold real size. Made famous by the Young Guns 2 movie with Kelly Slater and Co having a load of fun with Indies Trader 4 and a helicopter!
Scarecrows
Breaks off of an island called Tugat Nusa just south of Telescopes. Great consistent left as exposed to South as well as SW swell. Best on a dropping high tide with the end section named the Curry bowl the pick of the wave for barrel riders.
Ombak Tikus
Meaning Mouse Wave, this lesser known fun left is up the beach from Aloita. Ombak Tikus is a hidden gem and fun for most levels of surfer depending on the size. At 2-3 ft super fun and user friendly, however over 4-5ft it takes on a different look and feel.
Seven Palms
Not very well known wave which makes it a very good choice when conditions are right as not a lot of charter boats know this wave. A great walling left with occasional hollow sections. Tucked in a small bay in the middle of Sipora you have to know where it is to find it, but worth it when its on.

Check in/out has to be on either Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays or Sundays. During January and February, the Mentawai Fast Ferry only operates on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, so check in/out on Mondays is not possible in those months.

Mentawai Fast Ferry operates on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays during January and February, and on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays for the rest of the year. In this case, you need to land in Padang the day before check-in, and depart the day after check-out, as ferries depart early morning on the way in and get back to Padang around 7pm on the way out. We will organize all land transfers (airport and hotel transfers) as well as ferry tickets if you purchase the Transfer Package.
SURF PASS:
Only for surfers. 79 USD per person per day. It includes 2 daily surf sessions by boat to the best waves in the area, accompanied by our experienced surf guides. Optional surf photography packages available. Days should be chosen in advance, as the number of surfers in Aloita is restricted to 18 people. Days must be consecutive. Otherwise you can choose once in Aloita, if space is available. If the Surf Pass is purchased in Aloita, the price is 100 USD per person per day, regardless if you choose 1 or 2 sessions.
MENTAWAI SURF TAX:
All surfers must pay a surfing tax of 2.000.000 Idr (approx. 130 USD) to the Mentawai Tourism Office. We will collect and pay it for you once you are in Aloita. The tax is valid for 15 days.
SURF LESSONS:
Lessons can be organised directly once in Aloita. They include the surfboard rental. We suggest to bring with you a pair of surf booties for coral reef, a long sleeve rash guard for sun/board protection, and a good sun lotion as you will be a few degrees south of the equator.
Price: Group Class (max 4 students) 50 USD. Private Class (one on one) 100 USD.
YOGA CLASSES:
Daily yoga classes in the beachfront yoga Shala.
Price: Group Class (60-90 minutes) 20 USD. Private Class (one on one) 50 USD. Daily morning class (30 minutes) is free of charge/complimentary.

Aloita Resort
Aloita Resort Mentawai is an intimate boutique surf resort with only 10 beachfront bungalows, surrounded by lush tropical vegetation and 2km of private white sand beach. Each one of their independent bungalows is constructed using only the highest quality materials, including the same local hardwoods you’ll see throughout the resort. Each bungalow has its own private ocean-facing deck. All the bungalows are constructed to some of the highest quality in the Mentawai, with beautiful local hardwood used through the resort. Each bungalow has its own large lanai (balcony) and private pathway to the amazing white sand beach out front. Once inside your bungalow, each has a safe, a mini fridge, and plenty of closet and storage space, you can cool down with temperature controlled A/C or ceiling fan and take a warm shower in your massive twin bathroom. Every day, the staff will clean your bungalow and make your beds, which are big and very comfortable.
Surfing
Roughly 70% of the waves in the Mentawais can be accessed within an hour by speedboat from Aloita, and some of the best ones are right in their own backyard. For example, the world class lefthander Telescopes is only 10 minutes away, and many feel it offers longer and straighter barrels than Macaronis when it’s firing. There are challenging waves like Icelands, rippable waves like Scarecrows, and even a couple very playful secrets that break right off the island. Every day the qualified surf guides receive constantly updated surf forecasts, and will make recommendations based on swell, wind, and the desires/skills of the guests.
Restaurant & Bar
One of the most important parts of any holiday is the food and at Aloita the restaurant and bar are beautifully constructed entirely from local hardwoods. Aloita’s gorgeous open air restaurant is a wonderful place to enjoy a meal and reflect on the day’s activities. Three delicious buffet style meals are served daily which are designed not just to delight your taste buds, but also replenish and refuel your body. They specialise in a variety of seafood dishes using fresh produce caught in local waters, but they certainly don’t limit you to fish. You can expect anything from pasta dishes to pizza; steaks; chicken – you name it! And all meals are complemented well with a variety of vegetable, rice, fruit dishes, etc. – all high quality, high energy, and healthy.
Activites
Crystal clear warm water, untouched coral, and a diverse range of marine life lie just in front of your bungalow. Snorkeling around Aloita Resort is a breathtaking experience suitable for all ages. Aloita Resort also offers daily yoga classes in our beautiful yoga hall just a few steps away from the ocean. Yoga classes are open to all levels, allowing you to discover or deepen your practice. Stand-Up Paddle (SUP) is an a popular water activity that is easy and fun to learn. It’s a mix between paddling, surfing and balancing. Aloita also organizes trekking tours to nearby islands to explore wildlife and jungle. Their half-day treks are suitable for everyone including children. You'll set off from Aloita by speed boat to reach Siburu Island. then walk along a beautiful pristine beach before entering the forest.
Surf School
No matter if you are a total beginner or already experienced, Aloita’s home wave is suitable for learning or improving your surfing. It is only 10 minutes walking distance from the resort and the reef is safe without any strong current. Depending on the tide and conditions, it can be a mellow first ever wave or a fun left hander, ideal for a beginner or an intermediate lesson. From theory on the beach to practice in the water, one of our experienced surf instructors will guide you step by step. We suggest you bring along a pair of surf booties for coral reef and a long-sleeved rash guard for protection. Price: 50 USD per person per lesson, including rental of our soft top surf boards.
