September 6 to 11, 2016, Tex Perkins and his surf guitarist cohort Murray Patterson and Grinspoon front man Phil Jamieson played six shows in seven days at S Resorts Hidden Valley, Bali.
The week-long series of epic performances was indeed the fourth chapter in the now established Surf Music in Paradise series.
Previous installments have featured Donavon Frankenreiter, Tex and Murray and Pete Murray all hosted by Kandooma Resort in the Maldives.
This was The Perfect Wave’s first series hosted by our first S Resort at the Hidden Valley in Bali.
Tex and Murray kicked proceedings off on Tuesday evening after dinner on the lush lawns of S Resorts, playing a highly entertaining solid hour-long set that included a few classic Beasts tracks “Psycho” included, plenty like “Word to come” from The Dark Horses, and an entertaining cover of Kiss’s “I was made for loving you” for a good measure.
Phil rocked the same venue the following evening, playing a similar length set consisting off some Grinspoon classics like “No Reason”, “Sweat as Sugar” and too many solo newbies to mention.
The daily pattern in paradise was set.
Guests would surf the nearby breaks of the world famous Bukit peninsula (some of the best waves in Bali) by day, or cruise by the pool with family and reconvene before sunset for dinner and the musical performances.
What a way to spend the day!
The shows themselves are by design, cosy, intimate affairs with limited numbers to ensure they are once in a lifetime experiences.
The week continued with each musician upping the ante every show.
Tex and Murray played an amazing set of completely fresh material including some popular Cash classics up in the main bar/restaurant area on Thursday, and Phil moved over to the incredibly beautiful private Lumbungs for a very special show on Friday evening.
The whole week the surf pumped.
Some guests, including Phil’s children, took surf lessons with our experienced surf guides, others partook in morning yoga sessions, whilst some enjoyed a relaxing sleep in and late breakfast.
The beauty of Bali is that it can be anything to anyone.
The proximity of S Resorts Hidden Valley to not only the Bukit surf breaks, but to the east coast rights and or family day trips to Seminyak, the Safari Park or Waterslide Park etc. is so convenient.
You actually bypass much of the downtown Kuta and airport region traffic most of the time.
We will post a more detailed blog complete with video clip in the coming weeks, and stay tuned for announcements regarding next year’s Surf Music In Paradise lineup in coming months too.
In the meantime, if you’re in the mood for a quick, inexpensive stay in Bali in extremely close proximity to the Bukit’s jewels, don’t look further than S Resorts Hidden Valley.
