Macaronis

One of the most perfect waves in the world. A very hollow wave with many shallow spots. Lefts start from way up the point, then gradually slow down as it approaches the channel. The further up the point you paddle, the faster it barrels when you take off. After the initial barrel ride, this wave offers one of the most rippable walls for any maneuvers you can think of.

Hollow Trees

One of the world’s greatest right barrels, HT’s has been all over the surf mags and videos over the last decade. The main takeoff spot is up the point where most of the waves start barreling and peel flawlessly down the reef. On larger swells it can be very shifty and hard to read. It can shift more to the end bowl where it can break, reform, then bowl again into the channel. The inside is very shallow and is often referred to as the “surgeon’s table” due to the many reef-cuts doled out to travelling surfers.

Suicides

Aptly named, this high performance right off Awera Island is very shallow and can only be surfed on a mid to high tide due to the reef. However, it produces an amazing barrel and the locals love this break.

Telescopes

It’s hard to beat this wave for its variations of sections. A long left with multiple deep barrel opportunities, can hold real size. Made famous by the Young Guns 2 movie with Kelly Slater and Co having a load of fun with Indies Trader 4 and a helicopter!

Scarecrows

Breaks off of an island called Tugat Nusa just south of Telescopes. Great consistent left as exposed to South as well as SW swell. Best on a dropping high tide with the end section named the Curry bowl the pick of the wave for barrel riders.

Thunders

Another large left that picks up and can hold the biggest swells. It’s a top to bottom wave on the outside, that gets a bit mellower on the inside section. Another wave that usually has a lot of water moving, so a bigger board can come in handy.

Greenbush

One of the most amazing waves to surf in the southern Mentawai region. Greenbush is known as one of the most mesmerizing and hair raising breaks. The tube is very open and on the correct swell direction all three sections link up.

Babi Island

Banyaks

is the Banyaks’ ultimate swell magnet, delivering waves when Bangkaru and Tuangku go flat. The main peak offers a playful mix: a left with a barrel take-off and short wall, and a right that starts with barrel potential before running down the line for turns and the chance of another tube. Beyond the peak, the island hides several other reefs and slabs that can light up unexpectedly, making it a favorite spot for surprise sessions. While not the heaviest or most famous wave in the Banyaks, its consistency, variety, and laid-back atmosphere make it a special stop—plus, it’s home to some of the best fishing in the islands, perfect for trolling or spearfishing between surfs.

Treasure Island

Banyaks

is the crown jewel of Banyaks surf. An iconic right-hand point break delivering long, powerful rides along a perfectly sculpted reef. Expect extended open walls, often exceeding 200 meters, that feature multiple tube sections (sometimes up to four), interspersed with rippable segments ideal for big turns.

Cobras

Banyaks

When the stars, it dishes out some of the best, most hollow barrels in the chain, lining up for the entire wave. This is a spot for advanced surfers when it’s pumping, but as the swell eases and drops to head-high, Cobras transforms into a far more playful, makeable wave that still offers barrels but with a forgiving edge.

Telo Islands

are a compact, wave-rich chain between Nias and the Mentawais, offering a diverse lineup that blends power with accessibility. Spots like Sigata and Jurassic dish up fun, rippable walls, while heavier setups such as GT’s and Mystics provide slabby, hollow barrels for those chasing adrenaline. With this variety packed into a small radius, the Telos are prized for their consistency, uncrowded feel, and the balance between playful surf and world-class challenges.
