Surfing Highlights
Suicides
Aptly named, this high performance right off Awera Island is very shallow and can only be surfed on a mid to high tide due to the reef. However produces an amazing barrel and the locals love this break.
Icelands
The swell magnet for the area, Icelands is a left with many faces. An easy going west peak look fun but the main part of the wave loves the south swell angle produces a solid drop, barrel section and bowls at the end. Can be very heavy on its day.
Ombak Tikus
Meaning Mouse Wave, this lesser known fun left is up the beach from Aloita. Ombak Tikus is a hidden gem and fun for most levels of surfer depending on the size. At 2-3 ft super fun and user friendly, however over 4-5ft it takes on a different look and feel.
Telescopes
The most famous wave in the area its hard to beat this wave for its variations of sections. A long left with mutiple deep barrel opportunities, can hold real size. Made famous by the Young Guns 2 movie with Kelly Slater and Co having a load of fun with Indies Trader 4 and a helicopter!
Scarecrows
Breaks off of an island called Tugat Nusa just south of Telescopes. Great consistent left as exposed to South as well as SW swell. Best on a dropping high tide with the end section named the Curry bowl the pick of the wave for barrel riders.
Seven Palms
Not very well known wave which makes it a very good choice when conditions are right as not a lot of charter boats know this wave. A great walling left with occasional hollow sections. Tucked in a small bay in the middle of Sipora you have to know where it is to find it, but worth it when its on.

Awera have a variety of different experiences you can organize whilst you are at the resort from Clear Kayak adventures, Spa sessions in an exclusive retreat and paddle boarding in the mangroves. Surfing lessons can also be organized once you are at the resort.
As for the Transfer Pack and the Surfer Rate, we recommend booking these in advance as Awera have limited availability.
Designed for intermediate/advanced surfers.
This includes all boat trips to the surf.
You will usually go out 2 or 3 times per day and always try to find the best spots regarding the forecast and surfing level of the groups.
The price is 95 USD per person per day.
We advise booking the surfer in advance as Awera have a limited amount of surfers within the resort at one time (16 people).
Surf pack
This package is non-refundable and non-cancellable. Should you choose to book in advance, modifications will not be permissible, and any missed days will incur a full charge.
Please note that the mandatory Mentawais surf tax is not included in the package. You have the option to settle this fee upon your arrival.
Awera also offer the Surf School Pack: for the same price as the Surfer Rate.
It includes a daily surf lesson with a qualified instructor, soft board rental and boat use where necessary. Perfect for beginners or more advanced surfers who would like to improve their technique.
In order to ease your arrival to and from the resort, Awera will take care of everything starting with picking you up at Padang, the closest airport to the resort.
The price is 295$ per person + surfboard for a return journey and the service includes:
– Pick up from Padang airport, return journey
– Taxi driver from Padang airport to the hotel in the city, return journey
– Two nights hotel in the city. 1 night each way
– Taxi from the hotel to the harbour, return journey
– Ferry tickets including luggage (Padang-Tua Pejat) return journey
– Speed Boat from Tua Pejat to Awera Resort, return journey.
The ferry is the only way to access the resort, and it only works once a day (each way) 7am Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays & 10am Sundays. These are the only check-in and check-out dates.
The return ferry from Tua Pejat departs at 15:00 arriving in Padang at 18:30.
This is a complete service and we can’t make small modifications due to security reasons.

Surfing
You can easily access 13 surf breaks - there are three outside the resort, and additional 10 surf spots a short boat ride away. With so much variety, there is always a suitable wave for your style and level. Awera Resort has a fleet of three boats — one yacht, one traditional Mentawai wooden boat and a fibreglass boat. Awera offer surf lessons for complete beginners as well as advanced surfers. They offer more than 30 surfboards for rental.
