We all know that the Maldives is a tropical island paradise, one google search and we’re bombarded with stunning photos.

The water is warm, the skies generally clear, the water turquoise blue. The sand is bleached white and there are palm trees galore. It’s an incredible location for any holiday!

However, the reason surfers go back time and time again to stay at one of our resorts or surf safari boats is for the surf!

The waves are absolutely perfect and there’s something for everyone. There’s cruisy walls, performance waves and peeling cylinders for all standards.

Goofy or natural, the Maldives has it all.

1988 World Surfing champion Barton Lynch keeps going back every season. BL has experienced almost every possible surf trip, he absolutely loves the Maldives!

Speaking about the Central Atolls, BL said, “In the first week of May we scored consistent 2-6ft surf at a variety of spots as we travelled south from Male. We were blessed with amazingly light winds and the glassiest of conditions for the week.”

“Kandooma is always perfect, with really light offshore winds and glassy conditions. The first couple days we had 2-3ft fun waves, and although it got smaller, thankfully it was always surfable. Late in the week, the swell arrived, offering some super fun set waves that occasionally got into the 4ft range.”

Legendary Bob McTavish has been a bunch a times and although he no longer does guest trips, Bob said, ”A few of us got our best wave ever at Mauroofs, and we had waves every day from the get go… only in the Maldives with Perfect Wave Travel can you nail it every time.”
