Boutique hotel “The Place” is a unique, sophisticated and intimate space located in Mal País. The spacious uniquely decorated bungalows are set in a beautiful tropical garden, just steps away from our swimming pool with waterfall. Every bungalow features air conditioning with energy saving card, ventilators, room safe, mini fridge, Wi-Fi access and are equipped with a queen size bed, and 1 - 2 twin beds.
The villa is a two bedroom / two bath unit that can sleep up to 4 people. The bed arrangement is two queen size beds and one single bed. The living room area has a fully equipped kitchen and outside, the covered outside patios offer additional space for dining and relaxing all within garden view. The villa additionally features air conditioning, room safe and Wi-Fi access.
Surf & Other Activities

The Mal Pais/Santa Teresa area boasts some of the best quality and consistent waves in the world.
From point breaks to beach breaks, there is a wave suitable for every level of surfer. The most consistent breaks are found at Playa Carmen a short stroll from our hotel. Playa Santa Teresa is a five-minute drive to the north from the hotel. . Playa Carmen breaks best at higher tide and Santa Teresa breaks best at a lower tide. Playa Hermosa , which means beautiful in Spanish and is one of the nicest beaches in the area. Perfect for beginners and intermediate surfers and a lot of fun too.
Is another activity worthwhile doing in Mal Pais. Even if you’re not a Pro you usually catch a fish. The most common fish one can expect to catch are mahi-mahi, yellow-fin tuna, rooster fish, mackerel and rainbow runners. Depending on the season, you will see dolphins, whales, manta rays and turtles.
Horseback riding in Mal Pais/Santa Teresa is a fun and unforgettable experience. There are mainly two types of tours. Most people go for the sunset tour. The other option is to leave from Star Mountain . This tour takes you through the jungle and affords unique views. Then you will end the ride on the beach. Each tour is approximately 2 hours.
For sure you heard about it and it is a unique experience in Costa Rica !Just next to the fishing harbor in Mal Pais or close by the village of Montezuma 25 min. from the hotel.The Montezuma canopy has the advantage of stopping at the waterfalls during the ride.
This tour starts from Montezuma at 9 AM. You can enjoy the coastal view on the 45 min. trip to the island. This is a fun family trip.You will visit two 2 different snorkeling spots where you can see tropical fishes and sometimes nurse sharks (do not be stressed, they eat only plants). After the snorkeling there is a lunch served at the island. You will also meet Philomena, the domesticated wild pig. While you are staying at the island you have the possibility to play volleyball, cruse around in a kayak or simply dive into the deep blue water.
They also offer diving tours, you will need your license or at least the license number.
Cruse along the shores of Mal pais/Santa Teresa and enjoy a relaxing afternoon.
National park Curu
50 min.from Mal Pais heading back to the ferry. Curu is another ecological gem offering excellent bird and wildlife watching opportunities. It has a good network of trails, sand beaches fringed by palm trees, rocky headlands, and tide pools. This park offers daily admission or visitors can stay the night in a cabin and wake up in the jungle.
National park Cabo Blanco
The official entrance to Cabo blanco is in Cabuya. Once entered the park you have two options: the 45 min. loop trail or the 1.45 min. one way trail which ends at a beautiful beach. Also here you can observe howler monkeys, white face monkeys, coatis, raccoons and much more.
