Chitosekan Ryokan is located in the heart of Nozawa Village, a vibrant, charming village in Japan. The hotel’s prime location is less than a 5-minute walk to the Yu Road, which has a lift that goes right to the base of the mountain. Nearby, there is also a great foot-spring, the Jonobi restaurant and bar as well as all of the stores in the main street of Nozawa.

The hotel does have their own natural, indoor hot spring baths right in the facility, while other traditional, public O-Yu bathing houses are not far at all. Chitosekan Ryokan is the ideal location for dining, visits to the public baths, and access to the best ski parks.

The owners are a wonderful Japanese family, who has a cat who you are likely to meet during your stay. The family looks forward to indulging their guests in fresh, local Nozawan dishes, which include vegetarian options. All of these elements create a lovely, family atmosphere for anyone to feel at home in.

For those seeking an authentic experience, a stay at Chitoseken Ryokan will certainly immerse themselves in a more traditional, Japanese lifestyle than some other hotels. Yet, the facilities are still all very modern and the hotel offers an abundance of luxurious, familiar comforts.

As Nozawa Onsen is a village known for its hot springs, Chitoseken Ryokan has their own indoor hot spring baths for both women and men in separate chambers for each gender. Because of the hotel’s very central location in the village, guests can also experience traditional, public baths of the area by visiting the O-Yu bathing houses.

The family owners of the hotel enjoy hosting local, Nozawa cuisine for its guests. A set-menu breakfast and dinner are served at Hiroma dining room for an extra fee, and must be reserved at least one day in advance.

For those seeking definite wifi access, some rooms do have free wifi. Regardless, the lobby most definitely has free wifi access for all guests. Rooms also have a LCD TV for entertainment purposes.

The accommodations are all rather modern and quite comfortable with a traditional, wooden style. Guests will bathe in a shared, hot spring bath and sleep on a tatami (woven-straw) floor in Japanese-style futon bedding. Chitosekan Ryokan strives to give guests a traditional experience, while also ensuring that they are beyond comfortable.

There are four stories to this modern, wooden ryokan that holds 12 Japanese-style rooms. With all designed in traditional Japanese woodwork, here you certainly get a very real impression of being in Japan at this lodge. Rooms mix traditional decor and bedding with an LCD TV, and some rooms also have free Wi-Fi.

Guests will find that each air-conditioned room at Chitosekan Ryokan has sliding paper screens, wall hangings and old-style woodwork. There is an en suite toilet, and one hairdryer per floor. Guests bathe at the shared, hot-spring bath and sleep on a tatami (woven-straw) floor in Japanese-style futon bedding. There is a bathrobe, toothbrush, and soap set in the rooms as well.

Be aware, the rooms do not have the capacity for extra beds.

Chitosekan Ryokan has two types of traditional rooms available:

Japanese-Style Twin Room with Shared Bathroom

Japanese-Style Twin Room with Shared Bathroom and Private Toilette
