THE VILLAS
These traditional-styled thatch roof villas have 2 en suite bedrooms and a third loft room upstairs. Fully kitted kitchen, lounge and sea facing terrace with beautiful sea views. They are perfect for couples, families and small groups of surfers. With just 4 villas and a maximum of 4 adults per villa it can be some of the best value boutique accommodation in the Mentawai.

Each Villa has its own longboat with 15hp outboard, giving you total freedom to come and go as you please. You can hire a boat driver guide for an additional USD$25 per day. They can take you to all the local surf breaks, do grocery/beer runs to town, or take you fishing or snorkeling - freedom to follow your own schedule.

Even though they are fully equipped villas, they have a small pantry shop which stocks items such as olive oil, 100% Arabica ground coffee (all the villas have coffee plungers), freshly baked ciabatta bread, butter, cheese, steak, lamb shops, beef mince, bacon, canned items (tomato paste, beans etc), honey, herbs (basil, oregano, rosemary etc).  Upon booking these items can be pre-ordered and ready in the fridge for your arrival.

They also have the very basic Bilou Beach Bar which opens during the late afternoon and serves cold beer and a healthy set "meal of the day" - Bilou guests pay USD$7.50 for the set evening meal.

Tua Pejat is a well-stocked village 5 min away by boat. Local veggies, fruit, beers and dry goods are readily available as well as an ATM which takes master and visa cards.

THE ISLAND
The property has 3 hectares of land on the southern tip of Awera Island, with 250m of west coast and 300m of east coast which come together on a beautiful sandspit. Across the channel on North Sipora Island is Tua Pejat village which is connected to Padang via various overnight ferries as well the "Mentawai Fast" ferry which takes just 3.5hrs to cross the straight and runs 4-5 times a week. Getting here is relatively quick and easy.

THE BEACH
The private villas are on our west facing beach. There is a large gazebo with private shaded beach chairs out the front of each villa. Cool sea breezes blow across a shallow and calm lagoon with a beautiful safe beach and lots of shady palms. Great snorkeling out front and easy access on and off your boat. A second private beach is around the point - all part of this boutique resort.

GET CONNECTED
An added bonus is the cell tower at Tua Pejat which is visible from your villa, giving you a 24/7 3G connection.  Bilou can organize a SIMPATI sim card prior to your arrival preloaded with RP100,000 (AUD$10) worth of data which will provide 2weeks worth of browsing.  Sim cards are also available in the village of Tua Pejat.

BILOU BEACH BAR
Great for sundowners and dinner, Bilou Beach Bar will sell cold beer and dinner to guests and sometimes clientele from nearby moored boats.  It’s not unusual for expats from the surrounding area to call in for supplies or a cold beer or two, so the Beach Bar always has a great vibe.

100 % GREEN
The villas also have the highest "green" rating, being 100% off the grid and powered only by solar panels.

Air conditioning is not necessary. Located on the channel, breezes waft through most of the day. The Villas are designed for inside outside living with huge windows, doors opening out everywhere and shaded wrap around decks so no direct sunlight enters the house. The houses have the traditional high pitched reed roofs which keep the houses cool. Each bed has a fan inside the mosquito nets. This conscious design avoids the need for air conditioning  as well as offering inside-outside living spaces. The property is 100% solar, avoiding the need for generator power and adding expense.

The island is fully shaded all the way to the beach. Villas are built around the trees preserving as many trees and as much shade as possible.

Tua Pejat is a well-stocked village 5 min away by boat. Veggies, fruit, beers and dry goods are readily available as well as an ATM which takes master and visa cards. You can use our local Indonesian boat driver/surf guides to take you surfing, fishing, shopping...all in your own time!

Please note there is no known malaria, Tua Pajet village across the channel hasn't had a case in many years.

Surf & Other Activities
Besides the legendary below surf breaks to keep surfers happy, there are numerous locations for fishing, snorkeling or cruising around on a SUP to keep non-surfers happy!
  • BACKYARDS
Watch spellbound as this fast and hollow right-hander reels down the reef, just north of Bilou Beach. It slows down after it hits the  Backyard corner and on higher tides becomes a hotdog wave for all  skill levels. 5min away by boat, or a 10minute stroll down the beach.
  •  TELESCOPES
It’s waves like these that made the Mentawai's famous. One of the most perfect and versatile waves on the planet. From heaving hollow barrels when its big, to smackable horseshoe bowls, to fun shoulder high peelers for the whole family, Telescopes has it all. The Swiss Army knife of waves. Multiple peaks and take off spots means everyone gets waves.
  • OUTERS
This is the exposed swell magnet right-hander at the very top of our reef. Its starts as an A frame peak and can hold size. Breaks in deep water and can be surfed during all tides and has waves when everywhere else is flat.
  • ICELANDS
Further around from Outers you will find this legendary lefthander. Hardly ever goes flat. Can be a gas chamber barrel or big bowling faces depending on size and swell angle.
  • DOUGHNUTS
Just across the channel is this "pro's only" left-hand drainpipe. This wave was originally named Suicides. A true test for those who know what they doing.
  • SCARECROWS
Keep driving past Telescopes and you will get to Scarecrows left. Picks up more swell than Tellies but the lineup can be a little less predictable. Make sure you are there when the Curry Bowl comes to life!
  • TIKUS
Up around the back of the islands is Tikus lefts. This is a fun, all tide, all skills wave which reminds everyone of Maccas. Just cruise down the line or smack the lip repeatedly: you chose!
  • TWIGGIES
Situated at the tip of the headland across from Bilou Beach is this ledgy lefthander, which is usually overlooked as surfers are drawn to Telescopes. It likes a mid-swell and mid tide and can deliver focused wedging barrels.

Bilou feels like you in the wild and at the same time is a beautiful area, quiet, no cars - waves around and beautiful snorkelling!
And nice neighbours

Jess and James Brodie (Sept 2016)

Staying at Bilou Beach was a  one of a kind experience. Gideon and Chantel were amazing hosts and their intimate knowledge of the Mentawais made our stay that much more enjoyable. Great snorkeling, fresh fish and cooking waves everyday. The biggest bonus was our short 5 min hop from the ferry to their piece of paradise. Thank you so much for an epic stay.

Greg  Coulstock (Sept 2016)
What Gideon and Chantal have created is something totally unique in the Mentawais area. If you are traveling as a small group or a large group or with the wife and kids this feels like a home away from home, the only difference being the abundance of perfect waves on your doorstep. With each villa having their own traditional Indo longboat you can surf where you want when you want . When not surfing there is plenty to do, truly a tropical paradise. I can't wait to bring my mates in August 2017. See you guys again.
Kabot Family with Makai (12 yrs) (Aug 2016)
A wave rich, pristine Island paradise for the whole family. Plenty of surf options for different skill levels, a snorkelling reef and a white sand beach on your doorstep to relax on. Bilou Beach is a gem, and a short fast ferry ride from Padang makes it easy too get to as well.
Linky McIntosh (August 2016)
The gentle swish of palm trees and lapping waves woke us to another gorgeous day in Bilou paradise... depending on the tide we could surf Backyards or Telescopes nearly every day... just a short boat ride away... if the adults lingered too long over our coffee in the gentle morning sun... the kids just walked to Backyards.
Threading our way through a forest of palm trees from our hidden wood-clad villa,  we could swim just off the beach to the reef of fish and coral... or just float along the edge of the island in the clear blue current to a sandy cove.
Even after hours in the  surf,  the kids kept busy skim boarding,  supping and collecting coconuts for the moms evening gin coconut cocktails.
Was pleasantly surprised at the "Mom and Grom" friendly surf breaks... fun waves and especially not having to travel far in a small speed boat.

A big shout out to the Malherbes and Bilou Beach Villas for my trip to the Ments!!
Incredible selection of right and left hand wave setups minutes from resort with a hollow fast right hander on the door step. Incredible swell magnet just around the corner for smaller days and a premier left 5 min drive for the juice. Definately spoilt for choice ! Froth level 10!!
Epic and easy fishing and as much spearing and snorkeling opportunities in warm crystal clear torquise water on the down time.
Super easy mainland ferry access, with all nesseceities nearby. 5 star service with beautiful self catering accommodation right on the beach! All in all an amazing stay!!! Will definately return. Big thx again

It was priceless seeing the expression on my sons face when we dropped anchor at Telescopes for the first time....heaven on earth. The fishing snorkeling, surfing and company at Bilou was out of this world. It is a rareity to take your son on these incredible adventures, but when you do he becomes your best friend as well as your son.  Awesome to have a spot like Bilou Villas which just ticks all the boxes!
