Flounders Sailing in Fuerteventura is a guaranteed special experience. They encourage seasoned sailors among their guests to have a go at helping out aboard their vessels and have no problem with giving newbies a few tips and tricks along the way.
If pulling ropes is not your cup of tea, why not lie up on the bow and start looking for dolphins. Whether you’re just on a day trip or a long charter, you’re sure to have a whale of a time.
Flounders Sailing is based at the port of Morro Jable on Fuerteventura Island in the Canary Islands. These islands are home to crystal clear blue waters and many different types of waves. The dominant language is Spanish on the islands but English is widely spoken too.
Flounders Sailing owns a fleet of 3 vessels, that all slightly vary in size and can hold from 8 to 12 people aboard at any one time. You can experience the magic of these vessels by either going on a day excursion or by taking a week long charter.
The day excursion is just over 3 hours long and lets you explore the area surrounding the island. A week long charter will let you explore 4 different islands and get you some serious sailing knowledge along the way.
Whatever option you go for you can rest assured that you’ll be in the capable hands of one of the Flounders Sailing captains.
Flounders Sailing is a sailing excursion service that is situated on Fuerteventura, one of the Canary Islands. It is a true sailor’s paradise and allows for many sailing adventure opportunities.
Flounder 1 - Flounder 1 is a Jeanneau Sun Fast 39. It is nearly 12 metres in length, has 3 cabins, loads of deck space and can comfortably accommodate 8 people.
Flounder 2 - Flounder 2 is also a Jeanneau Sun Fast, but is a 40ft instead of a 39ft, bringing its length to just over 12 metres and beam at 3.95 metres. There are 3 different cabins but with 9 births, allowing this vessel to easily accommodate 10 people.
Flounder 3 - Flounder 3 is the biggest of the lot and is a Jeanneau Sun Fast 43ft. The length comes in at just over 13 metres with the beam being around 4.2 metres. The yacht has 3 cabins but 9 births and can have up to 12 people on board.
The Sun Fast yachts are very safe, sturdy vessels that are designed for ocean crossings so they make for a trustworthy vessel when exploring the area around Fuerteventura. On top of that, the yachts are also very comfortable and you can be assured you’ll get a good nights’ sleep if you’re staying aboard.
Surf & Other Activities
There are surf spots all over the Canary Islands. Their southern location (compared to the mainland Europe) allows quality swells the time to form in the Atlantic. The hot summers and the warm winters (in and out of the water) and consistent swells make the Canaries an ideal surfing destination.
The main surf spots are the larger islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.
The best swells are from the north, and although these swells often have long wave periods due to the distance travelled, they can be affected by the north easterly trade winds. Surfing in the Canary Islands is often done first thing in the morning, to avoid the afternoon winds.
Many of the waves found in the Canary Islands are fast and powerful ones, breaking in shallow water.
The skippers will always be choosing the best conditions that fit your surfing level.
This sailing holiday is also open to other activities like SUP, snorkelling in the reefs at Lobos, mountain biking tours at La Graciosa Island, volcano trekking and cultural tours.
Flounders Sailing offers a sailing excursion from Monday to Saturday that starts at 9.30am and ends at 1pm. The yacht leaves out of the Morro Jable harbour. This excursion offers a once in a lifetime experience, as you can learn a bit about sailing- or even help out the crew if you’re already a sailor. You can expect to spot some wild dolphins and even have a dip in the crystal clear waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Snacks and drinks are provided on this excursion.
The Flounders are also available for charters, where you and your friends can hire one of the yachts, along with an experienced captain to guide and teach you all you need to know about sailing. If you do a week-long charter you can expect to visit 4 different islands within that week and do lots of exploring, swimming, fishing, dolphin-spotting and snorkelling.
