In his detailed weekend swell forecast that he posted last Thursday, my ole work buddy Coastalwatch swell forecaster Ben Macartney said, “We remain on track to receive a short-lived spike in short-period swell from the NE on Saturday October 26, 2019; derived from a strengthening northerly fetch that’s just developing across mid-northern NSW coasts. The source is a high pressure system over the central-northern Tasman Sea, working in conjunction with a broad frontal low currently sweeping across Victoria, Bass Strait and Tasmania.”

Although only short-lived, the developing fetch exhibits peak speeds of 20 to 30 knots and reasonable length; extending from the NSW/QLD border to the southern Tasman Sea. That looks like translating into a great morning of mostly 2 to 3ft+ NE windswell under offshore NW winds, gradually easing as westerlies freshen into the afternoon.”

Before i set out for an afternoon drive I had a particular horseshoe shaped reef in mind that loves the conditions described above by Ben Mac. Only problem was everywhere we checked was barely a foot or two.

Namibia? Cr @cruzhorvathphotoFroth fest! Cr @cruzhorvathphoto

There were however a couple of exceptions.

What an arvo!
Thanks Ben Mac.
