Unawatuna Bay or Wella Devalaya is 5kms from Galle towards Midigama. It is a powerful righthand reef break for experienced surfers. User friendly beach breaks are found closer in the bay.

The Resort

The Coral Sands Hotel is just 140 km from the airport, and is a quick 3-hour drive away. Located in Hikkaduwa, the country's first popular surf spot, the hotel offers you an unmatched experience with the natural wonders of the reef, the tropical fish and the turtles of the region frequenting the beach just a stone's throw away. Hikkaduwa offers you a vibrant nightlife and the town comes alive with a batik shops, art shops, handicraft shops and more. The hotel has 82 rooms, with 21 standard rooms, 56 deluxe rooms, 3 super deluxe rooms and 1 suite. All rooms have lovely views of the ocean. Diving: The hotel has a dive school onsite, and offers both PADI and UDI certifications. Madu Ganga: Located just 20km away from the Hotel, this river safari gives you the opportunity to check out a number of different wonders of nature, including beautiful flora and fauna. Galle Fort: This historic Dutch fort is located just 17km from the Hotel. The fort is a UNESCO world heritage site. Whale Watching.

Hikkaduwa is one of the most popular beaches to surf on the Sri Lanka South Coast. Main Reef is where everyone surfs and it's a great break, quite powerful when it gets bigger but really perfect for learning on when the swells are more mellow. There's a great left-hander just 2 minutes north of the Coral Sands Hotel which is well worth a surf on the right swell.
