Captain & Crew
At the head of 5 crew, you’ll find the licensed captain. He is ultimately in control of the safari. Haira’s captain has lots of experience boat chartering in the Maldives. He is supported by a second in charge, boat boys, and a full-time chef. One boat boy will be in charge of guest services and one will be a dinghy boy and in charge of anchoring. The crew are all local Maldivians so know the area extensively and you can be confident of their skills & expertise.
One of the most important parts of any surf charter is your surf guide. Your surf guide on The Perfect Wave Handy is employed full-time by TPW Maldives and trained by ISA (International Surf Association) as a Surf instructor and SGA (Surf Guide Association) in safety, rescue, first aid and hospitality. All our hand-selected, well-trained guides have been running surf charters for many years, and are the best and most experienced in the Maldives. With the largest network of surf operations in the Maldives, they know where and when it is good and will put you in the spot. They will also be in daily contact with TPW Regional Operations Manager to ensure you have everything covered for an amazing Maldivian surf experience.

  • 4 cabins with 1 double & 1 single bed.
  • 2 cabins with twin single beds.
  • 1 master cabin with a double bed.

All cabins have separate personally controlled air conditioning units and portholes if you prefer the natural ocean breezes. They also boast spacious en-suites with shower & toilet and hot & cold running water. Fresh cotton linen & towels are provided, beds are made daily by your crew.

Wall sockets on the boat are English and Asian, so we recommend you to bring a travel adapter with you if you are from a different region. Internet access is available if you bring your own laptop. Phone connection is available all around the Maldives - you can buy a local SIM at the airport on arrival for cheap calls home.

All TPW Maldives charters have Wi-Fi hotspots onboard for basic website browsing, emails, messages and Wi-Fi calling. But if you are after more download bandwidth for streaming services etc., the cheapest option is to just grab a SIM from one of the local providers which can be purchased at the airport once you have cleared customs, or at a local village during your trip. Other Surf Experiences

Lucas (July 2018)

I went on the HAIRA in the Maldives in July 2018 with my dad and my brother and some friends. I am 12 years old. Our Surf guide was Lars and we had the most fun in the world. I want my dad to take me again.

Dean (September 2017),

We had a great trip. Yes the boat upgrade was a special bonus as everyone had plenty space and comfort.
The service by the crew was exceptional as always and being the second trip you should be proud of the way they conduct themselves.
The girls had a great time and did not want to leave. There were no hiccups on the travel and everything went perfectly.

Peter Wilson (September 2017),

Overall the trip was great. Your organization and communication in the lead up was great. The boat, crew and its manifest were spot on. Thank you for the upgrade as well.

Aoife (August 2016)
TPW provided a once-in-a-lifetime surfing experience with amazing variety of waves and the boat was awesome! The food on the boat was simply delicious.

Michelle (August 2016)
My trip to the Maldives with The Perfect Wave was amazing! It is an experience I will never forget. I stayed on the boat, Haira, for a week and then spent a few nights at Kandooma. Both were amazing. Our surf guide knew the spots that would suit us best taking into account, surf conditions, crowds and our experience and I definitely feel like a better surfer. Both accommodation and food were great. I'm dreaming of my next trip.

Margie (August 2016)
We had an amazing trip to the Maldives with the Perfect Wave. We had beautiful, uncrowded waves everyday. Thank you!

Kristin (August 2016)
My holiday with The Perfect Wave was all I had hoped for and more. I came home feeling completely satisfied, and looking forward to my next adventure.

David (July 2016)
Ten days on a boat with 10 mates, surfed everyday, swam with dolphins and turtles, 29 degrees in the water, 29 degrees air temperature, great crew, chilled out surf guide, heaps of great food and a bar. Need i say more.

Bianca (September 2015)
We had an amazing trip with fun waves, attentive staff, delicious food and a phenomenal boat.

Kate (September 2015)
We absolutely loved our trip on the Haira - the crew were fantastic, particularly Misshu and Gobi, who went above and beyond to make our trip memorable. We want to go again next year!

Carlos (August 2015)
A very nice trip, perfect journey, and a lots of new friends, many thanks for all 🙂

John (July 2015)
Day 9 of the trip and it has been above expectations
I'm not one for writing reviews but I can say , and will write , it has been perfect.
Both Alana at camp for 3 days and Matt are both exceptional in their patience , humour and demeanour.
The perfect trip with perfect waves. Can't be better than that!

Matt (July 2015)
An absolutely fantastic trip! From early organisation we had all the required information and were kept up to date throughout with prompt replies to any queries. The Haira, our charter boat, was excellent with great accomodation, tasty and plentiful food and a knowledgable and personable surf guide in Matt. Scored waves every day to top it all off. I highly recommend a perfect Wave trip on the Haira.

Maximillian (July 2015)
Absolutely awesome trip! Great service, great boat and great waves!

Douglas (July 2015)
The boat Haira Captian, Crew and Surf Guide did a fantastic job! We surfed every day with glassy, onshore, offshore, lefts and rights. Quality photos from the water and most importantly waves that were well suited to our ability levels. Nothing was too much trouble for the crew and I'm definitely going back again!

Rodney (July 2015)
The crew on the Haira and surf guide were second to none. Lashings of tasty food to boot.
Scored waves every day so Happy Days!

Scott (July 2015)
Overall it was an absolutely amazing experience. The Haira boat in the Maldives was exceptional and the staff were extremely accommodating. We had 13 mates on board and it took our group perfectly. The food far exceeded our expectations and there was always heaps to go around. Please just get a new motor for the tender!

Justin (June 2015)
The Haira boat charter was fantastic! It was so convenient to just wake up each day and pick and choose where to surf in the atolls.
The staff were lovely, the food was great. They kept the boat clean and tidy always and the surf guide was awesome too. It was good to have a surf guide that actually guided you in the waves and did not hog all the waves.
The boat charter is definately worth the money. It is a holiday purely focused on surfing and that is how we love to spend our holidays 🙂

Nathan (June 2015)
Awesome trip guys this being second trip this time got to experience how good the Maldives can get with glassy conditions😊😊 each day and everyday someone different had there throff on!!!
So stoked

Jeremy (June 2015)
I`ve just returned from an 8 night trip on the Haira to the Maldives. While the swell remained pretty tame the whole trip and it never got to `epic` proportions, I`ve gotta say I`m rapt with the way the whole trip panned out. From the great bunch of guys we had onboard, to our awesome surf guide Brian who always put us on the spots that were going to be good that day and was a fountain of knowledge and all round nice guy, to the boat crew (Gobi etc.) who never stopped working the whole time, to the supply of amazing food and cold beers we had the entire trip - it was an amazing experience and hopefully one I`ll get to experience again one day. Thanks again to Rhonda for all her organisation and keeping us all updated, hope to be back very soon. Cheers.

Chris (June 2015)
I couldn't be happier with the service received from Perfect Wave staff and we were extremely fortunate to have Brian as our guide. With Brian's wealth of knowledge and willingness from the captain & crew to do early starts & move to different locations, this ensured maximum surf time. Given our circumstances & situation, Perfect Wave delivered on getting us the best conditions for waves & minimising crowds during our entire stay. The entire experience provided was a seamless & professional operation. Thanks to Rhonda & Brian in particular.

Brent (May 2015)
Second trip with Perfect Wave - this time to the Maldives. Surf guide and crew were as outstanding the organisation and boat. We had a fantastic trip with some awesome waves and were openly consulted on all decisions about where to surf throughout. Great vibe on board with the only negative being having no set date to look forward to for the next trip.

Darren (May 2015)
We had a great time aboard the Haira. good waves, great locations, and eventually made it some uncrowded breaks. Surf guides Matt had good knowledge of where to go for the varied experience of our group.

Jamie (May 2015)
Just back from a 7 night surf trip on the Haira exploring the North and South Male Atolls Maldives. Would firstly like to Charlie at the perfect wave who made the whole experience from first his advice as to where to go right through to the final stages where everything from flights to transfers went seamless. The boat itself was amazing plenty of room, plenty of food and a fantastic crew, they were always happy to pull anchor when we wanted to continue exploring. Our surf guide Matty was unreal, great guy and knew his stuff when it came to the Maldives, although we had a bit of wind around we always found waves first few days were chest to shoulder high with the last few days well overhead. All of the boys had a great time, definitely will book with TPW again. Cheers Jamie

Jamie (April 2015)
Our trip from flights to transfers both ways as well as the boat itself was perfect, the crew on board were great and your surf guide Matt was awesome, let’s just say we taught him a few things or two. Although the weather was not so great due to the winds we still scored a heap of waves some with crowds and some without which was great in the beginning around the North Male Atolls we surfed waist to head high plus Jails, Chickens Cokes then went back south Quarters, Riptides and Tucky Joes where waves peaked and nearly double overhead. Biggest waves most of us had been in, was awesome. We went to Kandooma one night to get off the boat, that is an amazing place for sure. Anyway mate thank you once again look forward to speaking with you again soon.

Oliver (June 2014)
Amazing trip, amazing people, amazing waves, couldn't have asked for anything more, would do it all over again, wish i got stuck in groundhog day whilst i was there.!

Great service and support from the Perfect Wave Team, The Boat crew were second to none and nothing was to much trouble for them. The surf guide quickly summed up our level of surfing experience and took us to the best waves for everyone to experience. When the weather turned, island visits and a resort visit was arranged, along with snorkeling and scuba diving. I highly recommend to anyone considering a surf trip to the Maldives to book it with The Perfect Wave.

Traveling around the Nth and central atols. I have to say our surf guide Jeremy and his wife Sarah were excellent in everyway they were welcoming and accommodating with any requests we had.The photos they took of us all were fantastic, could not have asked for a better guide. The Maldivian crew were 1st class friendly and helpful with any request. Food and cabins top shelf.A special thanks to Sarah for patching me up when I had a run in with my board. Wound healed up nice.

A boat trip with your mates will always be fun, from what i'd heard Maldives has cruisy mellow waves. All the surfs we had except one, had overhead sets and some surfs were true perfection. Our guide was knowledgeable about the area and i think we got the best waves available. 90% of our surfs were uncrowded and 50% on our own. The boys on our boat made everything easy, food was great beds were comfortable and the price was too good too pass up.I definitely recommend this trip to any surfer.JS

Thanks to Charlie for seamlessly arranging my trip, and to Brian 'the surfing Irishman' for guiding the boat itself. Thanks to him, we surfed every day and every session, unlike other charter boats in the area, and made the best of the great conditions on offer in the Maldives. I've had the best waves of my life on this trip...until the next one!

Dear Rhonda, Kim and the Perfect Wave crew,Just a quick email in regard to our recent trip to the Maldives.Where do I start? Wow, what an experience, We could not have asked for anything else. The crew on board were fantastic and the food was sensational. I thought I would come back from the trip lighter than when I left. However, I think I may have put some weight on because the food was so good! The surf guides Jeremy and Sarah were awesome. The surfing ability of all of the boys on our trip differed, however, Jeremey and Sarah continually ensured we were all regularly in the water. Their knowledge of the area and advice whilst surfing was unbelievable. They are both truly a credit to your organisation.Given our experience, I would definitely use your company again for our next surf trip. In fact, some of us have already started talking about it! I will send some photos on asap. Please give me a call if you would like me to expand on anything at all or complete a further testimonial.Again, what a sensational trip.Thank you for all the planning that you did.Have a great day and I look forward to talking with you soon.Regards, Jarrad

I will definitely recommend it to anyone looking for this kind of getaway in the Maldives.

What an exciting adventure in the North Male Atoll aboard the Perfect Wave vessel Haira. 8 full days of surfing with a great bunch of blokes, amazing waves and crystal clear Maldivian water. We lucked into the swell of the season in the first 2 days, with Cokes and Chickens absolutely firing. Surfed most of the popular breaks and some of the South Male setups. Crowds were there, but as always, timing was everything, with some memorable sessions with only our guys in the line up. The Haira is such a great boat, plenty of space, and the crew will have you well fed, rooms spacious, and the beers flowed all trip and were ice cold. Everyone was absolutely shattered by the final day, heading back home totally surfed out. Do yourself a favour and talk to Rhonda, Jamie and the Perfect Wave crew for your next surfing adventure.Epicswells Photo Trip, Coops, Yallingup WA, 27 July – 4 August 2013

This was my third trip to the Maldives. My first being 20 years ago. I can't believe how much it has changed. This trip was the best by far. Kim was "right on the ball!" Every detail was looked after with minimum time and fuss. Kim was very friendly and it seemed as though I did not have to do anything at all in regards to organising this trip.We scored beautiful waves, beautiful weather, crystal clear warm water, had a great surf guide and crew and when we weren't surfing , we were eating, drinking and laughing from sun up to sun down. I can't remember the last time I surfed 7 days in a row.I can't wait to get back there!! I just hope my wife lets me out again!Mark Bannister (Former WCT Pro Surfer)

H Charlie, Just letting you know I had an awesome surfing trip in the Maldives on the Hiara recently. The friendly boat crew worked very hard and we had lots of fun with them. They cooked delicious meals and kept the boat clean and tidy. I would definitly recommend this trip to anyone and keen for another boat trip in the future. Jeremy and Sarah were very helpful surf guides and gave great advice. They are very good surfers and helped us sit in the best spots to catch the waves. Only knowing Dan before the trip, I became good friends with everyone else and everyone got along really well with plenty of laughs and good memories. Really stoked to get waves everyday. The crowds weren't too bad in fact I was expecting it to be busier but our first few days were the best. Great snorkelling and nice to just chill out on the boat. Thank you for a wonderful experience and looking forward to future bookings with The Perfect Wave.

Hey Perfect Wave, I just wanted to say a BIG thanks to everyone for organising the BEST surf trip ever in the Maldives. From the moment we stepped on to the awesome Haira the crew and Richee the surf tour guide provide myself and 7 mates 10 days of epic surf at Jails, Cokes, Sultans, Honky’s, Chickens along with great waves at Kandooma and Rip Tides. The PW crew did not miss a beat and were constantly watching the swell direction, winds and where the other boats were to ensure that we got the best waves at the right time. The trip provided me with my best, fastest and biggest face drop ever. I have come back an improved surfer which is not hard when you spend 6 to 7 hours in the water each day. All in all the waves, PW service and the Haira could not have been better. I would recommend it to anyone no matter what level of surfer. Look forward to next Perfect Wave surf experience next year. Cheers, Matt

surf 2 to 5 foot 2 - bigger days @ Cokes Camp. It was great! good food, got to mingle with locals.. Rhonda as usual had organized everything no hassles. We had cleanup day with local surfers who are concerned about what tourism/surfers are doing to the place we picked up 30 bags of bottles and rubbish in two hours. A lot comes of boats. Respect any beach as if it is your own. Also the local surfers are so mellow but it won't last if us visitors don't respect them as locals. Their surfing is improving rapidly. Had a barbacue night after cleanup / drums as entertainment dancing, great vibes... The Perfect Wave surf guide invited us to share his 21st birthday cake with his family and friends. A great honour! Will be going again next with The Perfect Wave once again.

G'Day Jamie, Sorry for the delayed reply as I have been full bore with work since arriving back home, must be some sort of penalty for going away and having a great holiday and not thinking of work. The trip was one I will remember forever from the wild weather on the crossing south and the waves at Ying Yangs and The farm to the send off the crew gave us as we were motoring away heading to the airport on the way home. You were spot on, Brian James is a cracker of a host as he handled everything that came up with a calm and polite manner that had all our respect. The boat and food was fantastic. The crew, well you couldn't ask for a better bunch and the captain was just all class. Thanks again and will be in touch shortly to organise for the next one.

Hey Jamie, Got back to bloody work today after a great trip to the southern Maldivian atolls with The Perfect Wave aboard the Haira. Just a quick note to say thanks to you and the guys at TPW..........everything went fine, got some good waves, caught a few unlucky fish and had a heap of laughs. A special thanks to Brian James (surf guide) who, despite being a Queenslander was excellent in finding us surf, always making the right calls and most importantly explaining his reasons to us as to why we were staying at a certain spot or leaving. Personally I got a couple of crackers at Ying Yangs (almost had to break out the dark brown boardies) and some perfect glass at Mikados and got to surf F1s which has long been an ambition of mine. Once again thanks mate for all your help in changing my flights etc. much appreciated. I'm going to pay for another trip with TPW to Rubio Plantation in the next week or two for me, my young bloke and my brother so can't give you a better recommendation than that. Cheers Pete

We had some great waves and had an epic time, just wish the Maldives were closer to home! Next time I'd book flights earlier to avoid layovers in Male and Singapore, but other than that a perfect holiday!

We were wrapped as the trip was an epic couple of weeks. Those phantom big swells never did quite hit but we had some cracking days and some decent 5' pulses so happy days!!Big ups to Martee. Awesome guide, loving the local knowledge, make sure you hang on to him!! Mentioned it to him at the time, but let him know that he is welcome at ours if he makes it to Melb's during his Ozzie sojourn later this year. This was my first ever surf boat trip to the Maldives with The Perfect Wave and I felt it necessary to write in to you Jamie and the team to thank you very much for the such an incredible time. From the moment I booked the holiday, your team made the entire experience thoroughly enjoyable with no stress and completely hassle free. The Haira boat was perfect with lots of space and a first class crew who non stopped looked after us with fantastic food, service and transfers to the surf breaks whenever required, those guys never stopped. Your advice re time of season for best waves was spot on and your surf guides put us in the barrel and on uncrowded waves regularly throughout the 10 days to make the trip absolutely insane. Without doubt the best surf trip I have ever been on !! Thanks guys for a holiday of a lifetime – fully stoked !!

I've been surfing for 21 years now, all of my travels have been to Indonesia ranging from over land roughing it in the Metawia's to chattering loud old diesel fishing boats to explore the islands of north Sumatra and of course to party central, Bali! This was the 1st organized surf trip and easily the longest time I have ever booked a trip out (booked in November). I can honestly say it was one of the best things I have ever done! From the organization of the holiday to the icing on the cake "the waves!!!" it was perfect! For starters we had a really great bunch of lads which is always a good start and then the crew on the Haira, so laid back and helpful, this made the whole experience, which just so happened to be all revolved around what seemed to be endless amounts of swell ha! We woke to 3-4 feet on the 1st day, just a lazy 8hr session at Jails to kick the trip off. The next morning Honkies/Sultans was on fire! followed by 2 and 1/2 days of chickens/cokes ranging around 4-6 feet (jelly arms were starting to kick in), had a small but very fun break down at Kandumas before heading back up to Jails where things got real PERFECT 6 foot, mild off shore winds to hold up what felt like 300 meter rides at times, insane fun! I think I got to about 4 o’clock and was done, only to come in, crack a beer, watch my mates surf something I have never seen before perfect 6 footers blowing off shore ALL DAY there was no break in the conditions, completely surfed out and mind boggling to what we all just scored on our 10 day surf adventure in the Maldives, one of the most memorable surf trips to date.Until we meet again The Perfect Wave!Unbelievable service and experience was on tap the whole time, very, very satisfied and would recommend The Perfect Wave to anyone, actually I already have ha!Thank you and kind regardsPhil

G'day Guys, Sorry for the late reply but I've been super busy since I returned from the Maldives, unfortunately life back home doesn't move at the same relaxed pace!I thought it was worth writing in to let you know what an awesome experience I had. The trip was quite well organised from the start, all I had to do was grab my passport and pack my boards. The boat was unreal, the food was amazing and the waves were some of the best I've ever surfed.Worth a special mention was our guide Brian. He was friendly, knowledgeable and nothing was too much trouble. Top bloke all round. Will definitely be coming back.

Just got back on Monday 22 Aug from the best surf trip I've ever had. The Haira rocks! The Maldives rocks! The swell was all time. Just overhead first day, building to double overhead mid trip and bigger on one day. I'm a low intermediate level surfer and was with some great surfers and there was something for all of us. The boat crew were fantastic as was our guide Ritchie. Lots of room on the boat too. Will definitely go back! Soon! Thanks big time to the Perfect Wave for making this trip seamless and the perfect surf trip! Baz.

All in all a rad trip. Scored some nice waves in the first few days & a crackin' last day at Jails. Would have loved to see it when it's really firing though. The Haira boat was amazing and Brian and all the crew were awesome and did everything required to make out trip as perfect as possible. It was seemless from our pick up at Male right to the drop off. Water was warm, plenty of waves, beer was cold and food was delicious! Can't ask for much more than that, so cheers guys...

We had an amazing experience in the Maldives! The surf was perfect the whole time and we even managed to score a few epic sessions with just our crew out. It truly is a remarkable place, the captain and crew were great and the snorkelling was fantastic too. We will definitely return! Shukuriyya 🙂

Hey Rhonda,We had it all time and cant wait to go back in 2012. The trip and the boat was amazing and thanks again for putting us in contact with such an awesome boat. Brian and the boys were excellent and would not hesitate to recommend this charter to anyone. But maybe keep it quiet for the crowd reasons. Thanks again for all your help and will be booking again for 2012.

Hello RhondaWe got back from our week in the Maldives last night. In short...the Maldives was the complete package and way beyond our expectations. The other guests on the 'Haira' were a top group of blokes and you couldn't want for better 'play mates'.The Maldives is now to me a highly recommended destination for so many reasons. What occurs to me is..."If you are a gumby occasional longboard surfer whose idea of a surfing challenge is a gentle rolling friendly 2' swell at First Point, should you dare to dream that you could aspire to go on a surf charter to the Maldives and mix it with short board maniacs who want to shred and carve every massive wave in sight until they are in a state of exhaustion? Yes, yes and YES! Don’t dare to dream it....just do it."Watching a group of guys whose surfing skills match the qualities of the waves in the Maldives is an experience all in itself. We wisely played around the safe edges of their frantic pace and I personally paddled for hours and kms and kms each day on my Stand Up Board exploring the atolls and checking out the resorts, the lagoons and reefs....a beyond magical experience. Then to get back to the Haira and listen to the guys debrief their session was so much fun and very, very educational!Because David and I are not full time surfers, the absolute highlight of our trip was a few days spent wandering around Thuslusdoo and Male. Loz was a very, very hospitable guide and deserves BIG congratulations for having the PR skills to keep us all happy depending on if some wanted to keep on the same break, move to another, try fishing or go to Male for the day. It would be hard work I am sure but he did such a great job and it would be very challenging to be the host of such a weird mix of people (I mean us as the gummbies and all other passengers as serious surfers).I will send a few of the best of our photos later Rhonda...jet lag from yesterday is making my head porridge and our house is strangely rocking in the same rhythm as the 'Haira'.Thank you again for giving us a priceless memory

Best regards,Janita – TorquayAug09
