Surf & Other Activities

The area around Myoko has long been home to a traditional retreat for Japan's imperial family. It's hard to get an endorsement higher than that!

Myoko is best known for its winter sports, including skiing and snowboarding in the mountains outside town. The closest ski area to Akakuraso is the Akakura Kanko Resort Ski Area. It's just 15 minutes from the inn by foot, or a short cab ride. Further afield, the Myoko Ski Park can be reached in under 20 minutes by car. There are dozens of other ski areas in the region, and Akakuraso's knowledgeable staff will be happy to point you in the right direction.

Apart from skiing, Myoko's other big draw cards are its hot springs, called onsen. The area is renowned for its piping hot onsen. Akakuraso has its own onsen on site, and others can be visited in town.

Finally, Myoko isn't just a winter retreat. In summer, the region offers some decent hiking and other outdoor sports.
