Surfing Highlights
Hollow Trees
One of the worlds greatest right barrels, HT’s has been all over the surf mags and videos over the last decade. The main takeoff spot is up the point where most of the waves start barrelling and peel flawlessly down the reef. On larger swells it can be very shifty and hard to read. It can shift more to the end bowl where it can break, reform, then bowl again into the channel. The inside is very shallow and is often referred to as the “surgeon’s table” due to the many reef-cuts doled out to travelling surfers.
Lance’s Left
This left-hander is a consistent and frequently surfed crowd-pleaser. Lance’s Left has the ability to hold big swells and can offer up rippable walls and some little tube sections. It can also handle an onshore wind and still have fun waves. Facing Southwest makes this spot very consistent however its nature become more serious when there’s a large swell running.
Bintangs
A short and hollow right across the channel from Lance’s Left. As the wave approaches the reef, the bottom drops out before barreling towards the channel. When conditions are prime, Bintangs delivers amazing, round barrels and extremely fun, rippable walls. A major advantage of Bintangs is that on the days when the dreaded North wind blows out most spots in the Mentawais, Bintangs is offshore and pumping.
Cobras
A short distance up the reef from Lance’s Left, you will find this intense left-hander. It gets really shallow on the low tide and prefers a bit more water. Due to the shallowness it is normally relatively uncrowded. On a South swell and East wind it is a non-stop barrel from the takeoff all the way to the channel where the wave spits you out. Therefore appropriately named, The Cobra.

The Setting
HT’s, short for Hollow Trees and also known as “Lances Right”, was discovered in the early 70’s and named by surfers due to the huge hollow tree standing tall on the reef. In 1999 a huge swell tore the tree down, leaving only the legendary name. The resort's property stretches over 150 meters of absolute beachfront land with the world-class HT’s surf break directly in front of the resort.
The Villas
Four villas are scattered along Katiet beach, each villa has two separate rooms. Enclosed by palm trees, powder-soft sand, and azure waters, these villas have a homely feel that will make you feel comfortable when staying in the Mentawai Islands. From the moment you step inside HT's modern villas, you will notice how most of the interior features are made from either recycled wood and natural materials. The white walls and ceilings give the rooms an airy feel, while the windows allow natural light to flood into the living spaces, creating the feeling of extra space. Enjoy hot water showers any time of day and Air-conditioned (A/C) comfort is guaranteed in each of the rooms for your entertainment pleasure.
Surfing
Hollow Trees, known locally as HT’s or Lance’s Right, is one of the best and most consistent, fast and barrelling right-handers in the world and the resort looks straight out over it. The wave wraps around the south end of the island and into the sheltered bay where it unloads on the reef known as The Office and finally the Surgeon’s Table. As the name suggests, this wave is for intermediate and advanced surfers, and rated as one of the top five waves in the world. With 10 world-class waves within a short boat or bike ride from our resort, there’s surf to suit all levels. Or if you don’t want to hit the waves, then simply enjoy a tropical paradise and watch the action unfold from the beach.
Restaurant & Bar
All-day breakfast will have you fuelled with a range of beautiful dishes from refreshing smoothie bowls to the classic smashed avo on toast! At lunch, the menu broadens featuring an array of cuisines; you can find traditional Indonesian flavours when tucking into the Beef Rendang, Yellow Seafood Curry and Satay, Thai influences present the chicken Kway Teow and a mango salad in the Grilled Mahi Mahi dish. The mouth-watering Australian Tenderloin will never leave you disappointed and let’s not forget the HT’s Burgers and Pizzas! The Sago Restaurant selection boasts cheesy and juicy goodness, from Philly Steak Roll to the Spiced Chickpea Vegan Burger.
