Arenas Del Mar is located on the Central Pacific Coast of Costa Rica about 2 miles from the nearest airstrip located in the town of Quepos (in the Manuel Antonio area). Quepos is a short 20 minute flight from Costa Rica’s capital of San Jose where international flights land at Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO). Driving from SJO takes about 3 hours.

The property overlooks the spectacular Manuel Antonio National Park and is located within walking distance of Costa Rica’s most visited national park.

The resort is situated on a cliff with direct access to two pristine sand beaches: Espadilla Beach and Playitas Beach.

Manuel Antonio National Park—voted by Forbes as one of the World's Most Beautiful National Parks—is a must visit during your stay. The views from the hills overlooking Manuel Antonio are spectacular, the beaches are idyllic, and its jungles are inhabited by howler, white-faced, and squirrel monkeys, two and three toed sloths, vibrantly colored frogs and songbirds. In Manuel Antonio National Park, you’ll experience the tropical wet forest; giving the park a remarkable variety of species.

Due to this irregularity, the park also has a variety of different ecosystems, which include fresh water lagoons, mangroves, beaches, coral reefs, littoral islands, rocky cliffs, herbaceous swamps and  more. Endemic to the area is a species of primate, the red-backed squirrel monkey, which is only found on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. Walking trails in the nearby park offer you a chance to experience the natural world up close with extraordinary views.

Surf & Other Activities

In Manuel Antonio you can find beaches that look like lakes with no waves. In other areas of the beaches, there are brilliant waves for surfing, body surfing as well as sea kayaking.

Surfing Lessons

Before you get into the water, the bilingual instructors will give you a safety talk, some theory and demonstrate the first steps of surfing and after that you are ready to try out your first waves.

Taking 3 hours from pick up to drop off these surf tours include A/C vehicles, surf board, leash, lycra top, beverages, snacks and a surf instructor.

Local Waves

Boca Damas – Offers long, fast occasionally hollow lefts with shorter rights. This break is usually larger than those surrounding it. Works best with an incoming tide.

Quepos Bombie – Recently discovered, this slab is just south of the jetty and breaks away from the point.

Playa Espadilla – With 3km of often consistent beach breaks, head north to Playitas for the best held waves from mid to high tide.

Playa El Rey – A long stretch of beach with quality peaks. Try near the Rio Naranjo rivermouth.

Playa Matapalo – A short drive south of Arena Del Mar this beach provides endless quality peaks with fewer surfers than the surrounding beaches.

Playa Dominical – Even further south, Playa Dominical can offer bigger barrelling beach breaks.

Hanging Bridges and Waterfall Tours

If you enjoy nature and hiking, the Rainmaker Reserve is just the right tour. Hand rails and easy to follow footpaths connected by a breathtaking canopy bridge network connected with observation platforms in the treetops, allow you to observe waterfalls, discover the area’s rich biodiversity and explore the majesty of the forest from a bird’s eye view.

Night Walks in a Nature Reserve

At night, many animals go to sleep but others come out to explore the dark such as frogs, snakes, spiders, opossums and owls. This is your opportunity to see, hear and experience the excitement of the wild nocturnal life at a nearby nature reserve.

Whale Watching Tour

In the Whale Watching Tour you will experience one of natures greatest moments. This tour will bring you to some of the most beautiful spots along the pacific coast of Costa Rica, which includes the Marino Bahia Ballena National Park.

White Water Rafting

If you are looking for more action and higher adrenaline then it is only 30 minutes drive from the Manuel Antonio / Quepos area where the Naranjo River forms the natural southern border of Manuel Antonio National Park. The Naranjo River descends steeply from the coastal mountain range above Quepos through a gorgeous jungle gorge, and takes you on a wild ride to sea level passing nearby farmlands and palm plantations.

Canopy Tour

Sail high above the rainforest canopy and experience the jungle from its best perspective.

Tennis - Transportation to a nearby tennis court located at Tennis Club Queposcan be easily arranged, offering a practice wall and 2 regular sized tennis courts.

Perfect Wave organised a fantastic memorable holiday for us in the most beautiful location imaginable in Costa Rica. Everything went smoothly, we surfed every day and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Now looking at our next surfing holiday with Perfect Wave!!

Sarah (March 2011)

March was my second time to the camp. I also went in Sept. 2010. Gita is a great guide and full of energy. There is a lot to do at the camp, perfect for very active to wanting to do something new. I went both times by myself for a getaway from the U.S. There is a great balance of self time and time with the instructor and guides so you don't get too lonely. Everyone is SUPER friendly. Del Mar is constantly adding new things to the camp. I tried SUP and Brazilian martial arts for my first time while I was there. There were both great. My days were full of activities, never getting bored! I surfed everyday along with yoga, hiking, beach boot camp and boxing. I think there will be a running camp next year and a 10k race. I cant wait for it to return for my third time!

Kerrie (March 2011)

What an experience!! Lauren and I took surf lessons with Angie and Oscar while staying at the Harmony!! As beginners they had us go out around 4 p.m. while it was low tide. Never having surfed before, it was nice to get a brief, but helpful lesson on shore from Oscar about tides, winds, and some basic safety tips!! Oscar and Angie were out in the water with us helping us and Lauren and I were both successful getting up on the board and even riding into shore on a few occasions!! Angie and Oscar's style really complemented each other. Both were encouraging and Oscar was fierce and determined for us to succeed. Angie was encouraging and constantly providing excellent instructions and tips for success!! By the end of our lesson, the sun was setting over the blue green pacific with colors and warmth like I've never experienced at sunset before. Living in So Cal, that is saying a lot - this was amazing. I even lost a pair of sunglasses in Angie's van on the ride back to her shop, and she was so sweet to look for them and drop them off at the Harmony the same day we called! If you've surfed before or it's your first time, I highly recommend the Del Mar Surf Camp!!
