Surfing has gained popularity in the southern-most reaches of Sri Lanka, a country well loved for it’s beautiful culture, it’s exciting foods and warm-hearted people. An island nation with a rich history, great food, old-world culture, and a range of scenery quite unlike anywhere in the world - picture tea-plantation lined hill tops to stunning coastlines, colonial cities and elephants on the side of the road.

When it comes to surfing options abound along this wave-rich coast. But Mirissa, we have to say, is a true-stand out. The smaller surfing and fishing village remains relatively tout free compared to many other beaches in Sri Lanka.

This picturesque palm-fringed bay, with its consistent waves and silhouettes of stick-fishermen standing in the sunset, strikes the perfect balance between a renowned surfing destination, and maintaining its charming authenticity. Couple this magic with the comforts of the Pacific Beach Club and its priceless location, and you have the recipe for an idyllic getaway.

Literally a stone’s throw from your bedroom window, you’ll find the waves lapping on the beach and a famed point break just a short stroll away.

Swim in the hotel’s large outdoor pool, or watch the sunset from the garden area, with your favourite cocktail in hand and a fresh seafood spread waiting.

Or venture into town and get to know the familiar faces of long time locals as you enjoy a selection of cafes and nightspots close by.

You can arrange a day trip to see Sri Lanka’s beautiful whales and dolphins at play, or venture further afield to see some of the country’s famed attractions like the old-world city of Galle or National Parks.

Regardless of the way you choose to spend your warm Sri-Lankan days, you’ll be happy to come home to the hospitality offered at the Paradise Beach Club.

The hotel offers a selection of fresh Sri Lankan fruit and vegetables and scrumptious cuisine with a tasty local twist.

From its humble beginnings back in 1983, the hotel has grown from five very simple huts on the beach to 42 well-equipped cabanas. And today, the hotel prides itself on the same attention to their clientele as when the hotel first began a near three decades ago.

SURFING

Great waves are within walking distance from your room at Paradise Beach Club, because the same bounty of southerly swells that hit Indonesia, also eventually find their way to the southwest coast of Sri Lanka.

But the higher latitude here causes these long southwest lines to loose some of their energy, which makes for more manageable yet consistent surf for most of the season.

For the southwest coast, including Mirissa, this begins from around the end of October until April, when monsoon northeasterly winds create offshore and often glassy conditions on this side of the island.

You can expect waves anywhere between two to six foot, and a breaking wave at almost any time of the year at Mirissa, a much-loved wave among locals and visitors alike.

The sandy beach is surrounded by palm trees and you can surf the friendly right-hander on most days.

There is also a left-hander that works close to the harbor.

During the rainy season (April through October) bigger swells tend to batter the coast, but the onshore and dirty water will make for a slightly less pleasant experience in the water.

In saying that, you can still get lucky and score the early session, with some nice waves and less people.

The southwest coast offers a range of options for surfers, and transport is easily arranged in Sri Lanka, whether it be through the hotel or a local driver.

Guy (October 2015)
This hotel is by far the best hotel in this beautiful small town. We got here for 3 days since we figure out that it is off season and we turned out to stay for 8 days. By the end even though this is a big hotel we felt like home. The food in the dining room was delicious and had a big diversity. The staff were very friendly, the manager offered to borrow us his expensive acoustic guitar. The owner of the place always made sure that we are satisfied and whenever we had issue he went out of his way to make us happy. I will definitely recommend this place to any one that will ask me

My favourite hotel in Sri Lanka, immaculate they have changed it slot since last year, the restaurant is now within the main building, I loved it before, but I suppose it's more practical now, beautiful spot, Rooms are out of this world also. Defiantly worth a visit.
