The rugged, isolated northern coastline of Western Australia is one of the country’s best kept secrets. Forget the crowds of Bondi – this is where serious surfers commune with the ocean. However, the isolation of the region makes this corner of Australia best experienced with the help of knowledgeable locals. This is where Samudra Charters comes in. Samudra is a new face among the Western Australian charter industry, but they’re already making waves with their great value water sports packages. They specialize in seven day outings, with most of their packages featuring trips northward up the coast, hitting the best surf spots known only by locals. They also offer options for diving and more. Typically, you can expect to embark around Geraldton or Kalbarri, then sent on an adventure up to the Abrolhos, Warra and Exmouth.

Their vessel, the Interceptor, is the perfect mother ship for surf or dive groups. It’s fully outfitted with everything you’ll need for remote and big wave surfing. Interceptor boasts a fast boat tender and jet skis equipped with sleds, along with state of the art forecasting equipment. All up, there’s everything you need for a successful water sports charter.

Samudra's ship, the Interceptor, can accommodate up to eight guests. It boasts one Queen size cabin, along with a double bed cabin. The latter also features a bunk. Another four beds are located in the forward cabin. The vessel has two bathrooms – one below deck, and a second toilet/ shower on deck.

A full list of specifications includes:

  • 60ft Westcoaster
  • Cruising speed 10 knots
  • 3400l fuel capacity
  • 60hp inflatable tender
  • 1800cc Yamaha FX cruiser jet ski with sled
  • Accommodation for 8 plus 2 crew
  • 55" flat screen tv with Foxtel and satellite
  • Air conditioning throughout vessel
  • Exercise equipment
  • Paddle boards, kayaks, snorkeling equipment and fishing gear available.

The Interceptor also features a Jacuzzi, which is perfect for relaxing in after a day on the surf. Up to six people can fit in at a time. All toiletries such as towels are provided.

Standard tours tend to go for around seven days, normally heading northwards from Geraldton or Kalbarri. The ship generally needs to start turning around on the third day, though that’s more than enough time to soak up the best of the region.
