Arpoador

Arpoador is known to be the birthplace of Brazilian surfing. This beach is located at the east end of Ipanema beach and is famous for its left-hand beach break which stays consistent all year round. The beach is also well lit, so it’s possible to surf at night if you’d prefer to avoid the crowds or like the evening chill.

Fernando de Noronha

Fernando de Noronha is an archipelago of islands packed full of amazing surf breaks. The volcanic history of the islands cause the waves to behave like the waves in Hawaii, which means lots of barrels! Some can reach up to 4 meters in height. It also boasts nice warm water if you feel like taking a dive or going for some snorkeling.

Pororoca

If you’re looking for something very different, head to Pororoca and try surfing a river wave. Once a year in March, a tidal shift draws a large amount of water into the Amazon River Basin which creates a river wave that you can ride for over 10 km. If you’re feeling competitive the town of Sao Domingos do Capim also holds yearly competitions.

Jericoacoara

Jericoacoara is a great surfing spot if you’re looking for beginners and longboarding waves. If you feel like trying your hand at windsurfing or kitesurfing, Jericoacoara is also great for that due to reliable trade winds.
