Firstly, I’d like to say thank you to URBNSURF Homebush for the unique opportunity provided to Perfect Wave staff, some of our ambassadors Dylan Longbottom, Summa Longbottom, Ace Buchan, Glen “Micro” Hall, and Dean Jamieson who joined us along with some special clients and friends of PW for a guided tour and a sneaky pre-opening session last Thursday afternoon.

Whilst it was onshore and raining on Sydney’s coastline that day, it was offshore, uncrowded and barrelling at Homebush.

Next, I’d like to share, two life-altering personal revelations from the day at Urbnsurf, Sydney

I am no longer a virgin!

And

Huey, I can no longer maintain a 100% monogamous relationship!

It’s always offshore in Homebush.

It’s always offshore in Homebush

I lost my virginity at UrbnSurf Sydney last Thursday and I liked it!

I pulled into my very first chlorinated cone in a pool, and now I’m addicted!

I’m hooked on the advanced barrels setting, which could be an issue because you can get shacked in Homebush both day and night, no matter the elements.

A rare wave sneaks through unridden on barrel setting

Huey, I think we are done!

Well, let me rephrase that: I now know I can no longer worship you exclusively.

I don’t feel like I can maintain an entirely monogamous relationship with you anymore.

I’m just being transparent with you out of respect.

I will always love you, you were my first love, and no doubt I will always come back to you.

However, in all honesty, our co-dependency has always been problematic.

Can we remain friends?

Duty now for the future. The future has arrived in Homebush

If you are like myself, and willing to risk your exclusive relationship with Huey, and are now open to building a relationship with the pool, it’s cool!

You won’t need to stress about forecasts anymore, homies.

SE winds are offshore, the pool’s protected, and it’s always 3ft.

The location is epic, turns out they didn’t set up Sydney’s 2000 Olympics infrastructure in Homebush for nothing.

It’s the centre of Sydney y’all, everyone can get there, the possibilities are endless.

No excuses, sort your crew, plan your own pool party, and go lose your virginity now.

It’s fun as!

But, let’s face it, I’ll always love the depth and complexity and all Huey’s moods and nuances, but hey, we have a reliable/mechanical alternative now in Sydney, rain hail or shine, and that’s worth celebrating!

P. S. Watch out Brazilian Storm, and 2 percent crew, the next world champ could be a Western Sydney Wanderer.

A few key, random observations…..

To be honest, I was a bit of a pool skeptic, hence the late loss of my virginity.
I’m that guy who makes my daily surf conditions check a bit of a ritual.
You know the type, grab a quick coffee, suss the wind, swell size, direction, and bank quality at the local, before making a call as to where, when or if I’m going to surf? Inevitably, then you bump into a friend, shoot the breeze, solve the world’s problems, delay till gentleman’s hour, dodge the masses then sneak out for a few.

The fact is though, the pool could prove to be good for productivity.

It’s easy, click on the link….

Choose your preferred time, and your preferred setting, and plan your sesh, which may just free up quite a bit of time in your week.

You only need an hour or two to get your barrel fix.

Take your standard, small-wave board, something fast with a bit of rocker to fit in those hollow poskets.

You should score more quality little barrels in 1 or 2 hours on the advanced barrel setting at Homebush than you will in most typical weeks at your local.

The advanced barrel is actually quite a fun wave. It’s a 3ft wave with a relatively easy take-off that evolves into quite a sucky, cylindrical bowl section. Take the low road, set your line, put the brakes on momentarily, stay compact, and then shoot for the exit.

Paddle back out against the wall, wait your turn for a minute or two, and go again.

The 4th wave in the set on the advanced barrel setting on the right is definitely the best wave in the set. It nudges 3-4ft on the bowl, and it is the thickest of the 5-wave set. Wave no 3 is next best, and 2 and 4 are ok. Waves no 1 and 5, are definitely a bit softer.

Thanks for the opportunity Urban Surf, we are stoked and look forward to coming back soon and recommending our clients sample the experience too, because it is so much fun.
