Portugal: Quality, fun waves await. Photo c/o Memmo Baleeira Sagres

Are you looking for a great value surf holiday, not too far from home? Let me tell you a little bit about Portugal.

The food and drinks are top notch. The Portuguese people are warm, welcoming and multi-lingual. The waves range from easily accessible beach breaks for beginners to world-class barrels at Supertubes and epic point breaks like Coxos for the more experienced. The amazing hospitality and fantastic surf are just two of the reasons both the men and women’s World Championship Tour stop off there every year.

Speaking of which, the men’s Pro Portugal event is coming to Peniche from October 18th to 29th. If you enjoy sharing the line-up with the world’s best surfers, The Perfect Wave has various options only a short drive from the contest area.

In Peniche itself, there are two excellent surf camps within walking distance to the surf, and plenty of bars and restaurants nearby. Choose between the Maximum Surf Camp and The Surfers Lodge. Both offer surf guides and lessons, massages, yoga classes, and skateboard and bike rentals to go cruise the coast.

There are plenty of learn-to-surf options in Portugal.

Want to be within driving distance of Peniche for the days the event is on, but prefer a more peaceful stay, away from the hustle and bustle created by the World Surf League being in town? The quaint little fishing village of Ericeira is the obvious choice to find great accommodations in close proximity to a wide array of surf spots, with plenty of lively bars, restaurants, and discos for post surf entertainment. We highly recommend the Portugal Surf Camp or Laneez Ericeira Surf House, both of which offer their own unique charm and facilities.

When you’re not surfing, both Peniche and Ericeira are driving distance from the Portuguese capital of Lisbon, which is great for cultural activities by day and fine dining, bar hopping and clubbing by night!
