The surf season in Papua New Guinea has just started. 3 days ago, we shared some photos and surf report from Vanimo, where the guys are already scoring empty, fun waves.

Today, we heard from Shane from Rubio Surf Retreat. He sent us a surf report and a photo gallery to give you an idea what the first week of surf season was like.

Rubio Plantation Retreat is in the remote central northeastern coast of New Ireland Province, Papua New Guinea. From here, you can search the remote coastline and offshore islands for an undiscovered wave. At Rubio they limit the number of guests to 15, so there is never a crowd.

Shane says:

We have had a great start to the season! No visiting surfers yet, but the boys and I have been scoring. We had swell right through the off-season. Nothing big, but we surfed at least once every week and had some real good east swells. The north swell kicked in like clockwork on the 1st of Oct. We have had swell in the shoulder-high to overhead range every day since then. The last week, the swell has had a lot of west in it so it has been missing Rubio, but has been good at Pam and Kapidan and firing at Kurlies (Kanapit). The swell swung a bit more northerly on the weekend and the boys scored Rubio epic. I was in town and missed it, but got Pikininis real good so can’t complain. Today has backed off a bit, but is still fun. I finished off the day with a good barrel after dark straight out front.
