Words by Ben Horvath | Mentawai surf footage by Andy Potts/The Perfect Wave

I’m sitting in the new Perfect Wave Cronulla office shivering slightly, even though I have a fleecy winter hoodie and beanie on.

I’m contemplating the prospects of an early morning surf tomorrow, but in all honesty there’s no banks at my local beach, and my wetsuit is sitting sodden, unloved and dripping wet in the boot of my car.

The wind is forecasted to howl south tomorrow, ruling out most surfable options.

Let’s be honest: It’s moments like these that we would all rather be somewhere else.

Winter weather patterns in Australia (especially the southern half) are already well entrenched, even though it is only mid May.

Prior to the onset of the westerly pattern, we had a succession of bank-destroying east coast lows and flooding rains.

Why Mentawai?

Well, quite simply I would love to be there right now, and I’m guessing that same sentiment would be shared in many workplaces and homes or wherever you are reading this right now.

Actually, instead of reading further, here’s some great images and a clip hot off the press from Andy Potts who just returned from everyone’s favourite archipelago.

The Perfect Wave have select charter spots still available in prime time, at highly affordable rates, as well as some sweet land camp options too.

Have a great day,
