In Australia and New Zealand right now there is a new found vibe of optimism as we see first ever so slight easing of restrictions. This glimmer of hope is firing up the imaginations of surfers – many of us are inevitably starting to dream of where we would rather be surfing.

At Perfect Wave Travel we’re constantly in touch with our key operators around the surfing world. They keep us updated with surf reports, clips and images of what the waves have been like, so we can keep keep you guys – our valued clientele informed and in the picture.

This has been the hardest part of our job during lockdown – seeing amazing waves delivered to inboxes, there is much frothing and dreaming of all the unridden perfection going down during lockdown. So we will will just share some of that around to help motivate you guys to go score at the first opportunity.

Hatsumi and Jordan at Kandui Villas have been one of the best sources of supplying mouth watering content and surf reports over the years with daily updates of the goodness surrounding their idyllic island resort

You will notice the images are not all about chunky No Kandui and Rifles, but more small to midsize fun surf captured during the so called off season, or early season Feb and March 2020.

This goes a long way to dispelling the myth that the Mentawai is only for chargers and 6 foot draining pits.

Sure, we all know you can score the drainer of your life in the Mentawai, but the waves you can surf in a typical 10 day window at Kandui Villas are not only about scoring a stand up pit at Rifles, Kandui or taking a big drop at Bank Vaults.

So, as you can see there is something for everyone. There is so much variety on offer if you stay at Kandui. You can surf more than a dozen breaks like Kandui Left, A-Frames, Bikinis, 4 Bobs, Rifles, Pistols, Kya’s, Baby Kandui, Kanna’s, Malibu Right and other known and secret spots near the island or you can also take surf transfers to nearby swell magnets like Burger World, Nipussi and even further afield to E Bay, Beng Bengs or anywhere in the Playgrounds area or even do a day trip to North Sipora.

After drooling over Hatsumi’s imagery I’m more psyched now than ever to hit the Ment’s when Covid restrictions lift, as i’m certain you will be too.

Imagine the opportunity that awaits the savvy surfer who takes advantage of the early post Covid chance to surf the Mentawai uncrowded? It really could be a throwback to epic old times.

Until then – enjoy!
