Why we all love surfing in the Mentawai. – Photo by Andy Potts

A year ago, The Perfect Wave joined forces with a non-profit organisation A Liquid Future and have been providing free educational programs in English, surfing and environmental awareness for over 150 students around the Sipora Island in the Mentawai.

Our volunteer teachers do an amazing job, (including our ambassador Mark Occhilupo), however, it simply wouldn’t be possible without The Perfect Wave funding the ongoing operational costs of the school.

Right now, we are seeking ongoing funding so we can continue operating free educational programs next year.

The goal being to empower the students, so they can be directly involved in the future of their islands. The recent Sumatran forest fires have caused dangerously high levels of air pollution in the region, devastating fauna and wildlife, the need to create alternative sources of income through education and skill acquisition is at all time high time.

The need to increase environmental awareness is critical. We have set up a crowd funding page where you can make a tax deductable donation to assist with any of our ongoing costs, including paying for a student to attend these educational programmes for a whole year.

There is also the chance that you could win a spot on Occy’s 2016 Mentawai trip if you make an online donation of $25 or more on the Planet Funder site and share the donation page link, tagging #MAD4Mentawi and #ThePerfectWave.

Help us give back to a region we all love so much!
