Maldives Surf Report: May 2016 Madness

Another month and another bunch of great waves.
There was an epic start to May, great South-east swell feeding all East coast of Maldives surf points in North Male Atoll through to Ghaafu Dhaalu Atoll in the South.
The Perfect Wave safari boats were on hand to make the most of it with Barton Lynch safari on Carpe Diem scoring probably the perfect trip. From perfect Cokes and Chickens to Riptides, the boat’s guests scored every day. Light winds prevailed for the first fourteen days of May providing consistent four to six foot surf.
Hariyana One safari was stationed in Central Atolls and made the most of the swell in Laamu Atoll with Machines giving it’s all to the lucky surfers onboard. Hamathi with our super sleuth wave hunter, Martey, onboard found waves wherever they went and Cobia enjoyed the constant swell in Nth Male.
A turn of events, every year there is a period that marks the beginning of Monsoon. 14th May it was this year. Stronger wind and storms prevailed. A couple of marine traffic weather alerts went out and our safaris and land based guests dodged the tempest, surfing before and after the passing storms in fifteen to twenty k offshore winds.
Late May and we are back to normal with perfect conditions and waves in the four to six foot range. 28th to 31st has been epic again. North and South Male Atolls have been relatively uncrowded. The Perfect Wave guests in this area have had many surfs with only their mates in the water.
