By Jeremy Wilmotte – Kandooma surf guide

Sunshine, good waves, blue water and great food is what we have been experiencing for over a week straight now at the Kandooma Resort located on a small island in the Maldives

We saw a new swell starting to pulse on the 14th that lasted 7 days with our Australian guest Andrew and Mark definitely making the most of it in between honeymoon duties. Riptides was the most consistent break with clean winds most days and a consistent 3-5ft surf range.

When the new swell arrived on the 18th the wind direction also changed a bit more to the NW. This meant Riptides was a little less clean but a left hand reef break called Tucky Joe’s was perfect. It was 3-4ft with the odd bigger set.

The wave itself is a steep takeoff into a fast shallow left hand barrel. Andrew once again was getting plenty of waves and spending a lot of time covered up. Being a goofy footer and on his forehand it definitely worked to his advantage. He certainly was a happy man during the boat ride home and happy with his decision to change his flight to later that night so he could surf this new swell.

The day of the 19th we surfed Riptides in the morning with 5ft sets and then once again returned to Tucky Joes in the afternoon.

This time there was less people and it was just as good. There was only 4 surfers in the water with everybody getting their fair share.

Bruno from Portugal started planning his next trip back here in September after seeing this wave. His exact words were “I never knew there was waves like this in the Maldives, just perfect”

The waves have now dropped off and all the guests are recharging up their batteries for the next swell. In the meantime there is snorkeling, diving, fishing, stand-up paddle boarding and Jullian’s favorite snorkeling with the whale sharks. They saw two 4+m whale sharks swimming close enough to them they could touch them.

I hope you enjoy the photos and we will try to have the site updated weekly.
