So it is the first day of winter: the time of year when both land and water temperatures begin to plummet.
Clear, sunny, relaxing Maldivian days out on the point (or by the pool) beckon.
The Perfect Wave ambassador Barton Lynch, his wife Holly and their young son Lion returned from Kandooma Resort last week, so rather than me shouting from the 2nd floor balcony of TPW HQ in Brookvale about how good a week or two in Kandooma is, I thought I would leave it to the 1988 World Champ and the Pipe Master himself.

When I asked Barton about how suitable Kandooma Resort is for his and Holly’s Surf and Yoga coaching trips, Barton said, “It is perfect for what we do; there is a great variety of waves in the area that suit all levels of surfers and so is perfect for my coaching. Holly did her yoga classes out at the surf point in the mornings and it was a perfect area for it. There are other areas that are undercover and in different locations that are great for yoga too.”

When quizzed about the staff and service BL was even more complimentary, saying, “The staff, service and food at Kandooma is absolutely first class, such lovely, friendly and accommodating people and the resort is maintained in pristine condition. Then the buffet is the best spread that I have ever sat down to anywhere, we smashed it and ate like kings, the desert bar copped a hiding, ha! We ate at the buffet every day and for every meal and were never bored and constantly excited to see what we could choose from each meal; it was really good. Heard that the roof top bar was great also, but never made it there.”

We chatted further about how Kandooma Resort is The Perfect Wave’s best selling surf experience and BL said, “I can totally see why. Kandooma has something for everyone literally – from a surf perspective there is great variety and a wave for all levels even for beginners at the sand bar, then rights, lefts and of different challenge levels too. It is the best place for a family, there is the kids club and small water park that the kids love, the pools, bars by the pools, all sorts of other water sport activities, the spa has amazing masseuses and treatments, and I could go on but it really is the perfect place for a family holiday where you get to surf perfect waves, do yoga and everyone will enjoy it. Our Maldives boat trip is first class, but on the boat it is a more focused core surf trip and Kandooma is more for the family and couples but still has the surf.”

In summation, Barton Lynch said, “The whole experience was amazing and being our first time there we didn’t know what to expect but are so stoked on the place and everything about it. The waves were so fun. As long as you have swell, you will get sick waves and be able to surf a variety that will challenge you. A couple barrels at Foxy’s and Tucky Joes really stood out for me.”

Kandooma Island is an absolute paradise and the snorkelling and swimming and surfing are even better than the website pictures portray. Barton is a good fella and he was very inclusive and I was lucky to tag along on a couple of boat trips with his group. The team at Kandooma were first class and big thanks to Rob and Ananda and “Bondi Rescue” for making us very welcome.

Most pleasant 2 surf weeks ever. From the first till the last minute no problems at all!

We felt very well advised and taken care from by Victoria, who really went above and beyond in advising us on the planning of our vacation, which turned out to be one of the best we ever had!
Graham (May 2016)
Just got back from Kandooma and wanted to let you know that the trip was absolutely fantastic… it completely lived up to the dream we had in our heads! Kandooma was beautiful, the surf was perfect (only 2 flat days, the rest between shoulder and head high… perfect for my ability!). Also wanted to let you know how absolutely fantastic Rob, Jolie, and the entire onsite Perfect wave crew was, they were all so incredibly accommodating, friendly, and knowledgeable; the trip would not have been as good without them! Anyway, just wanted to drop you a friendly note and let you know how great it was, and to thank you for the 8 months of assistance you provided! I cannot wait to plan the next trip!!

The travel reps at Kandooma, Maldives were excellent. A special thank you to Jolie and Rob for making our trip fun and enjoyable.

I thought to send you a personal email to express my thanks to the Perfect wave team in the Maldives for a fantastic trip. Rob and Jolie were fantastic and went above and beyond to make sure we maximised our holiday even when the swell disappeared on the sand bank. Rob challenged us to try the reef break and I would never have done this if I didn’t trust him completely. This is not a skill you can teach someone, it comes naturally to Rob and it makes him a great teacher. I’m also now a yoga convert and can feel the benefits after a week with Jolie, who was fantastic and clearly knows her craft.
