Summary
- Travel insurance is recommended for all travellers (medical + evacuation), but not mandatory for entry.
- Transit/stopover rules depend on your nationality and itinerary; if you leave the airport or stay longer, additional conditions may apply.
- All other travel regulations still apply – it’s the traveller’s responsibility to check official guidance (see Smartraveller and Fiji Immigration).
Entry Requirements & Visas for 2025/2026
Fiji operates a visa-on-arrival regime for many nationalities and a pre-travel visa process for others.
1. Passport Validity
Your passport should be valid for at least six months from your date of arrival in Fiji.
2. Visa & Visitors Permit
- Visa-exempt nationals: Typically receive a Visitors Permit on arrival (often up to 4 months total, subject to conditions).
- Non-exempt nationals: Must obtain a Visitors Visa before travel (apply via Fiji Immigration/nearest Fiji mission).
- Transit: If transiting within 72 hours, rules vary by nationality and whether you leave the airport; check Fiji Immigration and your airline.
3. Arrival/Customs Declarations
Expect to complete an arrival/customs declaration (usually provided in-flight or at the airport). Follow airline and on-arrival instructions.
⚙️ Essential Travel Logistics
Transportation
Fly into Nadi (NAN) for most surf zones (Mamanucas/Coral Coast) or Suva (SUV) for some south-coast options. For premier outer-reef breaks (e.g., Cloudbreak), arrange surf boat transfers via your resort or licensed operator—paddling out is not possible.
Connectivity (SIM & Wi-Fi)
- Mobile providers: Vodafone Fiji and Digicel offer the broadest coverage in tourist/surf regions.
- Where to buy: Airport kiosks and town outlets; bring your passport for registration.
- Plans: Prepaid data bundles are common; coverage is good around Nadi/Coral Coast/Mamanucas, with variability on outer islands.
Electricity (Plugs & Voltage)
- Voltage: 240V
- Frequency: 50Hz
- Plug Type: Type I (three flat pins)
Action: Bring a Type I adapter. Most modern electronics are dual-voltage and only need the adapter.

️ Safety & Health
General Safety
- Use licensed transfers; avoid isolated areas at night; keep valuables out of sight.
- In cyclone season (roughly Nov–Apr), monitor forecasts and follow local guidance.
Health & Surf Safety
- Insurance: Not required for entry but strongly recommended (include medical evacuation).
- Reef awareness: Many breaks are shallow coral; consider booties and basic first-aid for cuts.
- Boats & gear: Cloudbreak and other outer reefs require boat access—book through your resort/operator and confirm safety gear.
Surf in Fiji
- When to go: Surfable year-round; May–Oct (southern swell season) is prime for the Mamanucas and Coral Coast.
- Where: Mamanuca reefs (Cloudbreak, Restaurants, Namotu Lefts), Coral Coast (Frigates), plus Taveuni/Vanua Levu options.
- Boards: Bring your daily driver and a step-up for larger reef days; leashes and reef-safe sunscreen are essentials.
