This year on BLs tour through the Maldives, we hosted a couple of fathers and daughters, a mother and son, a couple mates from NZ, a couple from Perth, Dirk from Germany, and of course old mate Johnny Rare Bird. A great bunch of people sharing good vibes on the high sea- life doesn't get better than this! Yeeeeew!!
We clambered aboard our cruising home at midnight, met the crew, had a nightcap, and crashed. A Gang from Ireland, England, Jersey Island, Brissy, Cronulla, Manly, Broken Head, and even mighty Murray Patterson. We woke to the rocking motion as we motored south, by nine we were in the water at Quarters, Just Our Gang.
The conditions were absolutely incredible most of the time. Super glassy and pretty consistent 4ft to 6ft on a bunch of days, with the occasional barrel. The line ups were mostly empty, so our guests could enjoy it all for themselves most of the time. Our surf guide and absolute legend Marty would always make everyone

This winter seemed like it would never end. The quality and variety of waves, pristine diving, excellent fishing, kiting, SUP’ing, foiling and postcard sce
The Maldives, a chain of deserted tropical islands surrounded by pristine reefs with world-class waves created by long period Indian Ocean swells, are still very untouched and isolated when it comes to surf exploration. But where should you go?
The southern atolls of the Maldives is still a very untouched and isolated area when it comes to surf exploration, deserted islands surrounded by pristine reefs, and long period Indian Ocean swells unleashing endless amounts of energy everyday. Sean Holmes and his crew of South African frothers were more than ready
The Perfect Wave’s dearly valued contributor and roaming photographic ambassador Andy Potts was extremely appreciative for being invited to both ride and photograph The Ranch recently. Hope you enjoyed Andy’s exclusive clip of The Ranch and the comparison to a natural wave pool like the Maldives.
One of my favourite places to get away from the crowds and surf any kind of wave I want, from epic barrels to easy-to-carve walls, is the Southern Atolls of the ultimate surfers’ playground, the Maldives. The best time to go is in March and April when the winds are low and the crowds are nearly non-existent.
