Climate change is at an all time high with increased drought, catastrophic fires, pollution and natural disasters around the globe. We must all take responsibility for our actions and be considerate of the future health of our planet, people and animals.

Both Australia and Indonesia have been suffering from the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) which is also known as the Indian Niño, which is an irregular fluctuation of sea-surface temperatures in which the western Indian Ocean becomes alternately warmer and then colder than the eastern part of the ocean. These bizarre weather patterns have seen little rain in the Mentawai, with severe winds and tidal changes causing concern to the locals that live there.

We’ve just returned from another Legacy Trip with Barton Lynch which focusses on coaching an intimate group and giving back to local communities through our collaboration work with Waves For Water. This year we delivered 50 life-saving water filters and together with Kandui Villa’s , we had a total of 117 filters which we donated to families in need in Pei Pei Village in nearby Siberut.

Our visit couldn’t have come at a better time as the locals are struggling more and more to access clean water because of these weather patterns. Without having access to a life-saving water filter, they normally have to walk kilometers to get wood and then boil water which could be contaminated with life threatening bacteria. The smile on their faces and appreciation makes a trip like this even more satisfying and grounding to everyone involved.

If you would like to support Waves For Water and you’re in Sydney this coming Saturday 16th November, then come along to their fundraiser at 7th Day Brewery in Brookvale from 5.30 til late. It’s a family friendly event with skate ramp, Hurley printing press, live music and heaps of awesome prizes to be won in the raffle and live auction. If you can’t make it you can still make a tax deductible donation here.

AUD$50 buys one life-saving water filter, which has the potential to provide 100 people with clean water for up to 5 years!

If you’re interested in joining BL in 2020 and giving back to local communities through our contribution program then contact [email protected] for further information.
