The Kawamotoya is a traditional Japanese styled hotel located near the main ski runs of the Nozaw Onsen. The hotel provides guests with traditional Japanese accommodation options with renowned restaurant and bar to relax in after a long day on the ski fields. The hotel also has its own private hot spring onsen allowing guests to sit back and relax in the warm mineral waters.
The Kawamotoya is a traditional Japenese hotel located in the heart of Nozawa Onsen. In total the Kawamotoya has 23 guest rooms which exhibit traditional Japanese design to provide guests with a unique cultural experience during their skiing holiday.
The Kawamotoya also has its very own natural hot spring onsen bath. In total there are 13 public natural hot spring baths that guests are invited to use in the local village. One of the public hot spring baths is known as “Kumanotearai no you” located beside the Kawamotoya. “Kumanotearai no you” has gained a reputation for its ability to rejuvenate female skin.
The location of Kawamotoya is perfect for skiers. With a mountain height of 1650 metres and 400 centimetres of snow falling during the 2015 ski season, guests can be assured of perfect skiing conditions. With 36 runs and 20 chair lifts in close proximity skiers will find a run that will suit them whether they are professional or beginner skiers. The area is also popular with snowboarders with 30 percent of the runs being open to snowboarders. Skiers with children are able to take advantage of the child care facilities both at the Kawamotoya and within the ski resort itself.
Guests at the Kawamotoya will be extremely satisfied with all of the rooms on offer. Each room is tatami style and provides guests with comfortable futons to sleep on. Many guests opt for the premium tatami rooms as they are housed on the 4th and 5th floors and provide breathtaking views of the local village and mountains.
The Kawamotoya is located 287 kilometres from Tokyo and guests are able to travel to the hotel wither by train or bus. Most guests utilise the train service as it provides a scenic route through some of the most idyllic country side that Japan has to offer. Jon Nobi offers guests free transfers from the train and bus station directly to the hotel.
The Kawamotoya provides guests with the option of 23 guest rooms all decorated in a traditional Japanese style. The rooms are spacious and comfortable allowing guests the opportunity to relax after a hard days skiing.
Guests have the choice of choosing between the following rooms:
Standard sized tatami room;
Deluxe sized tatami room; or
Family sized tatami room.

The Kawamotoya features its own restaurant that provides guests with traditional local cuisine including Shinshu pork, Rainbow Trout and Alpine Salmon. The chefs in the restaurant only use the freshest of local ingredients ensuring guests of a delicious meal.
All of the meals are made in traditional Japanese style giving guests a unique culinary experience. The meals are also complimented with a wide wine selection to ensure that the tastes of every guest are satisfied. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Some guests prefer to stroll to the local village which has dozens of restaurants and bars that serve a wide variety of traditional Japanese and western cuisines. The restaurants in the local village provide an opportunity for guests to get out and meet local villagers as well as other skiers from around the world. The village is only a 5 minute walk from the Kawamotoya.
Surf & Other Activities
Unlike other skiing locations in Japan, Nozawa Onsen is only made up of one ski resort. The resort provides guests with over 300 hectares of terrain and 50 kilometres of ski slopes. With a breathtaking 1085 metre vertical drop Nozawa Onsen is a popular skiing destination for skiers from all over the world. There is an equal distribution of ski runs to ensure there is an appropriate run for beginners through to the most advanced skiers.
Nozawa Onsen Fire Festival
Each year on January 15 Nozawa Onsen hosts the annual fire festival known locally as the Dosojin Matsuri. The event is a large firework spectacular and help so prays can be made for health, good fortune and a large harvest. The festival also provides an opportunity for local men aged between 25 and 42 years of age to prove their manhood through mock battles.
Nozawa Onsen bases its tourism efforts on its natural hot springs. Nozawa Onsen is one of the best locations in Japan for natural springs and tourists from all over the world travel here to take advantage of the therapeutic benefits the mineral rich hot springs. There are over 30 natural hot springs within Nozawa Onsen for tourists to indulge in.
