Go back to the days before Indonesia became the tourist hot spot it is today: Untouched beaches, friendly locals and waves to die for. Located on one of North Sumatra’s outer islands, Mahi-Mahi is tucked away from the crowds on a stretch of pure white beach, which offers some fantastic surf. Mahi-Mahi Surf Resort is an all-inclusive ecologically minded surf resort located on Simeulue Island, in the Aceh province in northern Sumatra. They provide you with access to surf, marine, and jungle adventures and they give back through initiatives that achieve positive social, environmental, and economic impact in the Simeulue and Banyak landscapes.
Surfing Highlights
The Peak
The Peak is a fun perfect left and right which has both hollow barrel sections and nice walls. An easy paddle out from the beach and a flat reef makes it fun for all.
T-Bags
This wave will have you frothing pretty quickly. The access to this mesmerizing right hander is pretty easy but requires a boat.
Dylan’s Right
Dylan’s Right is a hollow fast prefect right barrel which breaks over shallow reef on the inside of a large south west facing bay. Breaks best in larger swells, but produces consistent fun, fast waves.
Thailands
On its day it’s a super fun wave that offers long fun walls and even some tube sections

The Resort
The bungalows are located on 10,000m² of garden paradise, fronted by a white sand beach, and directly in front of an epic A-Frame peak – ‘Sumatran Trestles’ – one of the most consistent waves in Indonesia. Over 10 surf spots within 30 minutes of the bungalows provide uncrowded waves for beginners, intermediate surfers and professionals.
The Location
Once upon a time, Indonesia's Sumatra was one of those forgotten corners of the world, where only the most seasoned travelers set foot. With the international tourism industry now well established on the island, those days seemed gone. Mahi-Mahi has sought to revive the classic Sumatra experience with its collection of isolated bungalows on one of Sumatra's outer islands, Simuelue.
Surfing
Simeulue Island, located 150km from mainland Sumatra has uncrowded point breaks, beach breaks, reefs, off-shore islands, and is for the adventurous spirit. The Peak – the most consistent wave on the island – is in front of the resort and viewable from all rooms and common spaces, but is only one of many surf options.
