The 2019 surf season has drawn to a close. Looking back, the season is a blur of stoked guests enjoying their holiday here at Lohis. It’s actually not been the best year of waves or weather, but our guest satisfaction level has been our highest ever. This makes me really happy and proud of our staff – It’s much easier to work in surf hospitality when the waves are good every day, it’s a lot harder when the waves are not so great. Our team of surf guides, photographers and yoga teachers have consistently delivered, going the extra mile for our surfers and their families. The appreciative comments on our feedback forms and endless referrals, shows what it means to our guests.

CSA Surf School coach Blake Johnston brought a Cronulla group to Lohis in October 19 and lit Lohis up. The infamous viewing deck at Lohis is hard to beat.

This level of service has now been formally recognized and I am happy to report that Hudhuranfushi has just won Leading Surf Resort in the 2019 South Asian Travel Awards.

The Maldives is one of the most desirable locations for Surfers to visit and Hudhuranfushi should be at the top of their list for 2020. Here’s a few of the reasons why:

Blake again, ripping up late season Lohis.

We are blessed with an enviable location – we are far enough to the North to catch any available South swell and all the South East swell. This means that on days when the swell is straight South we can have 4-6ft surf, but the resort waves in the South Male area can be a lot smaller. If you stress that Surf is a priority and want to surf every day, then this is the place!

Hudhuranfushi is the most stunningly beautiful island, with ancient banyan trees, coconut groves and tropical gardens. The resort philosophy emphasizes gently working with nature and the result is quite idyllic.

Hudhuranfushi translates to ‘Island of White Gold’ and our beaches are just that, with gently shelving, sheltered swimming areas and some fun snorkeling just offshore. If you have a guest who wants to be sure that his or her non surfing partner is going to enjoy time at the beach while he or she surfs (a lot!) then this is the place!

Lohis from above.

Lohis breaks quite far up the reef, compared to all the other lefts in the area. This means that Lohis is more protected from the wind and chop from the channel than the other lefts nearby, making Lohis the most consistently surf-able resort wave in the Maldives.

If you just want an easy trip with an uncrowded, ride-able wave out the front, then this is the place for you.

Hudhuranfushi Perfection! On and off the water.

We are situated right in the middle of the North Male Surf Zone – it’s just 20 mins by boat up to Cokes and Chickens or 25mins down to Sultans, Honky’s and Jails. We also have the easiest wave in the area, Ninja’s, just 5 mins across the channel! Location, Location, Location doesn’t just apply to selling houses!

Day trip to Jails anyone?

The Surf Package includes boat trips to all these waves depending on the conditions. This year we typically had an early boat going out at 5:45AM then two boats at 9:30AM and two more for the late afternoon/sunset session leaving at 3:30PM. If you want multiple Surf options every day, then this is the place for you!

Our photography service is becoming legendary. Photography base leader Ali Ahmed runs a tight ship. If a good wave is ridden we aim to have the shot of it…from multiple angles! If a travelling surfer wants to get quality photographs of their trip, then again, this is the place for them.

Blake Johnston of Cronulla.

Yoga has become increasingly popular. We run morning and evening classes on the custom built Yoga deck in front of the wave. It is the perfect way to start the day and the non-surfing partners really love it! Couples will stroll up to Lohis in the cool early morning. One may paddle out to surf and the other heads to the secluded yoga deck. Later they can enjoy breakfast together on the deck and both think it’s hard to imagine a better holiday!

Yoga then surf, or vice-versa?

Food and drink has continued to improve and next season is going to be better than ever, with the hotel upgrading to a Premium All-Inclusive package. Early indications are that it is going to substantially improve on an area that was already pretty good!

Jarrod’s Cronulla crew enjoying a swim by the bar or should that be the bar and a swim?

Hotel management are committed to the islands Surf Program and have invested heavily in a new Kids Club ready for the 2020 Surf Season – so now Mum and Dad can have a Surf together knowing that the kids are alright!

I could go on and on about how epic this place is, but I will leave it here!

Rest assured that we value our clients very highly and look forward to hosting you here very soon!

Cheers for now!
