Built by Classic Yachts, Freemantle Western Australia in 1988 Bintang is powered by a Gardiner 6XLB165 BHP 165 hp engine and has a cruising speed of 8 kts, 15 kts under full sail.

Bintang can sleep 14 guests in air-conditioned comfort, but 10 guests is considered a full booking. Bintang has a 30 ft skiff which travels at 30-40 knots to get you to the off shore wind fast when conditions change. It's set up for awesome deep sea fishing day or night. Also a quick transit back to Padang due to any emergency in 3-4 hours. From the skiff, which is a great shooting platform, videos and still shots will be taken of guests. Use of all equipment: skin diving, fishing rods & reels etc. is free of charge.

Accommodation
Bintang is a sturdy-sleek stay sail schooner built by Classic Yachts in Perth in 1988. Bintang is 115 feet overall, with a beam of 28 feet. Under 165 HP of diesel power, she cruises at 8 knots powered by an 8LXB Gardner diesel.

The speed increases to 13 knots when all the sheets are up and tight: Bintang is an ocean going sail boat and when the rough weather comes, they start going fast. That's when Bintang takes off up to 13 knots.

Bintang has multiple diesel-powered generators electrifying a full array of the best communication and navigation electronics: SSB and VHF radio, autopilot, radar, GPS echo sounder and position beacon. That quality extends to the comfort and entertainment of guests as Bintang has a 500 square foot salon equipped with state of the art entertainment center with TV, VCR and digital machines for replaying the surfing recorded that day, and a DVD/CD surround sound system for catching up on all the latest movies and music. Should anything go wrong, Bintang has AMSA / USCG fire-fighting equipment, a life raft and life jackets for 18 people, and an EPIRB position beacon so the rescuers will know where you are, even if you don’t.

Fully-loaded, Bintang sails with as many as six crew and 12 guests. The crew cabin is in the bow, and there are four guest cabins, each equipped with one double and two single beds. There are three bathrooms.  Exclusive charter bookings are generally capped at 10 passengers or less, with charters accepting individuals taking as many as 12, but guaranteeing a departure with as few as 7.

Meals are usually taken on deck, which accommodates 14 people comfortably.

All cabins are large. The set up is:

  • 2 forward cabins: each has 1 double and 2 singles which have en-suites. Total 6 guys, 3 per cabin.
  • 1 state room with 1 double and 3 singles; en-suite. Total max 5 guys in the room.
  • 1 back cabin with 1 double and 1 single; no en-suite toilet and hand basin on deck. Total 3 guys in the cabin.

Just wanted to thank you for all you did in regards to our boat trip. I speak on behalf of all the boys that it was the best trip. I can't say anything bad about it. Boat was sick, food was unreal same with the crew and we scored pumping surf all to ourselves. Definitely lived up to my expectation and even more. Can't thank you enough.

This was my first trip to the Mentawai region, so anticipation was quite high on what to expect. I must say that the boat was very comfortable and was more than adequate for my length of stay. The crew were very friendly and their service was great. Having breakfast ready within minutes of getting back from a surf was greatly appreciated. The food was a great combination of Western style as well as some more traditional indonesian. Not being much of a seafood eater this was very welcomed. I got some great photos from the trip and the crew did a great job sitting in the channel for hours at a time to get those shots. We had a great mix of waves and I must say an all round great Holiday. I can't wait to go back. Thanks to all on the Bintang and Rhonda at The Perfect Wave!
