The Perfect Wave Visits Kelly Slaters Wave Pool

The Perfect Wave’s travelling correspondent Andy Potts recently received an exclusive invite to Kelly’s Ranch.

Endless perfect waves, no crowds, no unforeseen dangers, and the chance to be part of the future of surfing….. yes please!

The golden ticket to Kelly’s wave pool is one of the most sought after items in surfing right now. Being able to score your own perfect man made 50 second wave and then surf it again and again, is what every surfer dreams about.

My day started with a meet and greet by the great team at the ranch, followed by a safety briefing and general introduction to the location. The days surf forecast was calm, perfect, offshore- and that it was!

All day glass had everyone tripping on what HUEY (Kelly) had organised for us.

The wave shows characteristics of many epic set ups around the globe, some riders say its a reef like wave, a perfect fun set up in the Mentawai, Maldives or Fiji, while others compare it to the hollow drainpipe tubes of the Superbank on the Gold Coast, perfect 3-4ft barrels that feel like they never end..

I’m sure we all have our spot!

Personally, all I remember was flashing back to my first ever barrel many years ago, knowing I was now part of something more, something special, that feeling of something unexplainable that needs to be experienced rather than relived on a 4 inch LCD screen from your office!
