Perfect Wave sends hundreds of surfers each year to some of the most amazing places on this planet. One such place is the islands in and around Sumatra, Indonesia. Home to beautiful locals, mostly untouched nature and world-class waves that we all love. The Mentawai Islands off Sumatra’s coast are undisputably the world’s number 1 area for quality, quantity and consistency of surf. It is a dream of every surfer on this planet to visit this area at least once in their lifetime.

Perfect Wave is committed to giving back to the communities that are not as lucky as we are through multiple initiatives.

Due to Covid-19 devastating the industry within Bali, Perfect Wave and S-Resorts have teamed up with A Perfect Foundation to supply a Bukit Peninsula food drive. As S-Resorts Bali is located on the Bukit, we are committed to feeding as many families as possible. We are buying food supplies and creating family packs consisting of rice, noodles, cooking oil, sugar & eggs. The resort staff contribute by delivering the food family packs, enabling every dollar donated to be spent on food supplies. With more donations we hope to soon offer a delivery service to nearby villages and cook fresh meals from the resort kitchen.

A Perfect Foundation

A Perfect Foundation is a Non-Profit Organization created to empower local communities in remote surf regions through education and skill acquisition to make a sustainable difference. Through collaboration and direct support we are dedicated in assisting any way we can with the wants and needs of the local communities, while learning from them at the same time. A Perfect Foundation supports multiple programs through initiatives and fundraising for other established charities in these regions as well as our own community based collaboration centre in the Mentawai. This way we are able to make a direct difference where and when it is needed through medical, hygiene, clean water, education, skill acquisition and environmental programs. We can all make a difference, and through caring and collaboration we have the power to connect with people from many diverse cultures and create positive experiences.

SurfAid

SurfAid is a non-profit humanitarian organisation whose aim is to improve the health, wellbeing and self-reliance of people living in isolated regions connected to us through surfing. SurfAid was started by a group of concerned surfers in 2000 who were struck by the suffering and preventable deaths in the Mentawai Islands. SurfAid now operates in the Mentawai, Nias, Telo and Banyak islands in western Indonesia, and Sumbawa and Sumba in eastern Indonesia. Many of the world’s best surf destinations are remote and people in remote areas are often forgotten, as delivering services there is costly, time-consuming and requires serious efforts. SurfAid passionately believes that no matter where you live, you have a right to access quality basic services. SurfAid delivers a pragmatic mix of practical support and capacity building to achieve behaviour change. It provides materials to build water tanks, water taps and toilets for clean water and sanitation, mosquito nets to avoid malaria, and vegetable seeds to help establish nutrition gardens to eradicate malnutrition. But it is the capacity building of community health volunteers, schoolchildren, community members and relevant government staff that really lies at the heart of what SurfAid does. The World Association of Non-Governmental Organizations (WANGO) honoured SurfAid with their humanitarian award in 2007, ahead of more than 49,000 other not-for-profits. WANGO said: “SurfAid embodies the positive values inherent in surfing, namely individualism, courage, dynamism, and adaptability, and seeks to harness these attributes in implementing projects with measurable results.”

Waves for Water

Waves For Water is a non-profit organization that works on the frontline providing aid and clean water solutions to communities in need around the world. Access to clean water is a game-changer. The overall health benefits are obvious, but the ripple effect that happens when clean water is introduced into a community is profound, and often overlooked. Sure, the risk of waterborne illnesses such as, Cholera, Salmonella, Giardia, E. Coli, and Typhoid, is mitigated–but it also positively affects many other aspects of life. Less money spent on medicine and clinic visits, plus less time staying home being sick, less time collecting water or the wood to boil that water, means a significant change to the socioeconomics of a community. Less sick days for children means a higher attendance in school, changing the outcome of their overall education. The list goes on: infant care, feminine hygiene, women empowerment. All of these reasons are a driving force for us, but it is the fundamental belief that everyone deserves access to clean water, as a basic human right, that drives us every day. The way we at Waves For Water channel that drive is by working on the front lines, to provide access to clean water, through the implementation of portable water filter systems, the digging and renovating of bore-hole wells, and the construction of rainwater harvesting, storing systems, in places where groundwater is not accessible.

Our Pledge

Perfect Wave’s procedure on travel documents has now changed. We no longer print paper documents and will provide all clients PDF documents via email only. We are very conscious of our carbon footprint and the paper usage that previously came from sending out thousands of paper documents each year. Further to this endeavour, Perfect Wave also donates $5 to the Rainforest Trust for every client that books with us and receives web documentation. We believe this is vital to the protection and restoration of rainforest in Sumatra, Indonesia.

We also ask all clients traveling to Indonesia to support A Perfect Foundation, and a $25 donation is included in all invoices. For every donation that is made, we match is dollar for dollar. We believe this is vital to the support and education of local communities.
